Reading
This fortnight in Reading, our Foundation and Year 1 students have been developing their phonics skills by learning to segment and blend sounds in VCC and CVCC words. These skills are essential for building confidence and fluency when reading unfamiliar words.
Students have been using Word Building Mats to create a range of CVCC words, carefully identifying each sound before blending them together to read the whole word. They have also revisited CVC words to strengthen their understanding of sound-letter relationships and build automaticity.
To extend their learning, students have been working together to orally use their newly built CVCC words in complete sentences. Choral speaking activities have helped students practise reading with confidence while expanding their oral language and vocabulary.

WritingThis fortnight in writing, students have been learning about the structure of a narrative. They have explored the four key parts of a story: the character, setting, problem, and solution. Through shared reading and class discussions, students have identified these elements in a range of stories and explored how authors use them to create engaging narratives.
Students have been planning and writing their own narratives by creating imaginative characters, describing settings, developing a simple problem for their character to solve, and creating a solution to bring their story to an end. They have been using their phonics knowledge to stretch out and record sounds in words, as well as practising using capital letters, full stops, and finger spaces.
Alongside narrative writing, students have been developing their handwriting skills by practising correct letter formation, pencil grip, and writing letters neatly on the line. They have been focusing on starting and finishing letters correctly, maintaining consistent letter size, and forming words and sentences clearly.

Maths
In Maths, students revisited place value by making groups of tens and ones and using hands-on materials such as bundling sticks and unifix cubes to make tens and ones. They also explored 2D shapes such as triangles, squares, rectangles and circles.

T.E.A.M.S:
During T.E.A.M.S, Foundation students settled into their new classrooms and participated in a range of activities to get to know their classmates and their new teacher. They enjoyed playing social games, revisited classroom expectations, and demonstrated the school values through their interactions and participation.

AUSLAN
In Auslan, students revised previously learned topics, including greetings, Deaf culture, sea animals, numbers, and the alphabet. They had opportunities to independently demonstrate what they remembered from these topics and actively participated in counting activities and songs to reinforce their learning.

Special Event
In Week 1 of Term 3, Foundation students celebrated their exciting milestone of 100 Days of School. Throughout the week, they participated in a variety of engaging activities to reinforce the concept of 100. Students coloured collections of 100 objects, designed and built creative structures using 100 icy pole sticks, and made special 100 Days of School crowns to wear. To finish the celebrations, students dressed up as 100-year-olds and showcased their creative costumes during the school assembly. Students had a fun-filled week that celebrated their learning, creativity, and the progress they have made in their first 100 days of school.
