Year 10 Solo Night

On Wednesday 17 June, the Year 10 Music class performed their solo to a small audience of family and friends in the Music Room. The students performed a range of music, with a very high standard overall. There were several progressive metal guitar performances, including some Avenged Sevenfold songs performed by Levi Goss and Aaryan Thapa, and Polyphia’s technically complex G.O.A.T performed by Nathan Banavong. Chloe Lambden sang Kate Bush’s Running up That Hill and Ashton Beagley performed jazz standards such as Fly Me To the Moon on trombone. Ashman Amar performed a rock inspired bass solo titled Metalurgica and Ethan Heyne showcased the slap bass style with fast Japanese anime piece Kick Back. Caleb Tran also performed an anime piece Crossing Field, delivering an impressive performance on the piano. The concert was the result of many weeks of dedicated practice, culminating in an impressive and entertaining concert. A big thank you to all the instrumental teachers for helping to prepare the students, and to Greyson Young for filming the event.

Relay for Change

On Friday 3 July the Year 12 cohort enthusiastically participated in the annual Relay for Change. This year's event focused on supporting initiatives that protect girls at risk of child marriage, encouraging students to deepen their understanding of global issues and become advocates for positive change.

Throughout the term, student teams planned and delivered a range of creative fundraising initiatives, with all proceeds contributing towards programs that help keep vulnerable girls safe and provide them with opportunities for education and a brighter future. The highest fundraising team also secured an advantage before the relay began.

On the day, teams competed in a series of engaging challenge stations, racing to earn as many tokens as possible. Each activity provided insight into the experiences of people living in disadvantaged communities, with stations including sandal making, shelter building, soccer ball construction, refugee voices, the water bucket race, embracing play, and the continuous baton. These immersive challenges encouraged students to reflect on the daily realities faced by vulnerable children around the world and the importance of organisations working to protect them.

The Year 12 cohort raised an impressive $6,219, comfortably surpassing their fundraising target of $5,000. Achieving this total in less than a school term is a remarkable accomplishment, and every student involved should be incredibly proud of their efforts.

A sincere thank you goes to all staff who contributed to the success of the event, including MAX teachers and administration staff, whose work behind the scenes, from marketing and finance to property and maintenance, helped bring the day together.

Finally, thank you to every Year 12 team, family member and community supporter whose generosity and commitment made this event such a resounding success.
