VCE VM & VPC HUB OPEN DAY: A CELEBRATION OF LEARNING
On Wednesday 28 March, our VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM) and Victorian Pathway Certificate (VPC) students proudly opened their campus to showcase the outstanding work completed throughout Term 1. The VCE VM & VPC Hub Open Day was a true celebration of student voice, teamwork, and hands-on applied learning – and a tremendous success.
Students took full ownership of the event and presented a wide range of projects including candle-making, classroom displays, posters, bike repairs, HPV car development, passion projects, garden preparation, and food creation and service. The addition of slushie and fairy floss stations (thank you to Miss Paula Cox and Miss Andy Higgins!) helped create a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere.
Our students showed immense pride in their learning spaces and were genuinely excited to share their work. It was fantastic to see them confidently articulate their learning, reflect on their growth, and engage with visitors in such a positive and professional way, truly reflecting the applied learning philosophy at the heart of VCE VM & VPC program.
We were thrilled to welcome staff members and students in Years 10 and 11. Sincere thanks to all teachers who supported the day by bringing their classes across. Your presence made a significant impact. A special thank-you to Mr Greg Kluske, Mr Emmet Brown, Mr Heath McClaer, Mr Mel Ficarra, the Careers team and our House Leader team for their support and encouragement. –It meant a great deal to our students.
We also extend our thanks to staff who joined us at the end of the day to enjoy food prepared by our students, as well as to the students who stayed after school to share their work with families, and the staff who made the trip down Wattle Parade. Your support did not go unnoticed.
The success of the VCE VM & VPC Hub Open Day highlights the strength of our program and the dedication of our students and staff. It was a powerful reminder of what students can achieve when given the opportunity to lead, create and share. We look forward to building on this momentum throughout the year.
VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING IN SCHOOLS (VDSS)
With just over 100 students currently undertaking VET programs, we recently took the opportunity to visit SuniTAFE and see some of our students in action. It was great to witness the hands-on, practical learning they are involved in and the confidence they are building along the way.
VET (Vocational Education and Training) is a valuable part of a student’s educational journey. It provides opportunities to gain real-world experience, develop industry-specific skills, and work towards nationally recognised qualifications – all while still at school.
Along the way, students also build important employability skills, such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. These all help to prepare them for life beyond the classroom.
It is always rewarding to see our students embrace these opportunities and grow in confidence as they explore their future pathways – whether that leads to an apprenticeship, traineeship, further study, or direct employment after completing Year 12.
If your child is interested in learning more about VET and would like to explore future vocational pathway opportunities, please feel free to contact me via email at hwilson@sjcmda.vic.edu.au. I would be happy to arrange a time to meet and discuss this further.
