Term 3 2026 Overview
Welcome back to another exciting term in the Visual Arts room! We are looking forward to continuing our creative journey as students explore new artists, cultures and artistic traditions from around the world.
Throughout the term, students will continue to develop their skills, knowledge and confidence through hands-on artmaking, discussion, reflection and creative exploration, all aligned with the Victorian Curriculum 2.0.
Our whole-school Art Show theme, "The Continents Around the World," continues to inspire our learning this term. Students will build on the wonderful work they began last term as they investigate two fascinating continents Europe and Asia. Through exploring different countries, artistic traditions and cultural celebrations, students will discover how art reflects the history, beliefs and identity of people around the world.
This term, students will journey across Europe to discover a range of artistic traditions and historical artworks. They will investigate beautiful stained-glass windows found in churches, cathedrals and castles, colourful mosaic artworks that have decorated buildings for thousands of years, and other European-inspired art forms. Students will experiment with techniques such as collage, pattern-making, line, shape and colour while creating their own artworks inspired by these traditions.
We also finish off art around Asia, exploring the rich cultures and artistic traditions of countries including Japan, India and China. They will learn about the significance of colourful Japanese fish kites (Koinobori), celebrate the vibrant Diwali lamps (diyas) of India, and investigate other traditional artworks and crafts that highlight the importance of storytelling, celebration, symbolism and nature. Through these experiences, students will experiment with a variety of materials, textures and construction techniques while developing an appreciation for the diversity of Asian art.
Across all year levels, students will continue to build their understanding of the Elements of Art, including line, shape, colour, pattern, texture and form and discover how artists use these elements to communicate ideas, traditions and cultural stories.
As our Art Show approaches, students will continue creating and refining their artworks, which will become part of our exciting school exhibition celebrating creativity from across the globe. We are excited to see our young artists express their learning through a wonderful collection of colourful and imaginative artworks.
It is shaping up to be another vibrant term filled with creativity, curiosity and cultural discovery. I can't wait to see the incredible artworks our students create as we continue our journey around the world through Visual Arts.
