Performing Arts Term 3
Welcome to Performing Arts Term 3!
Prep
Students in Prep will be focussing on exploring, experimenting, and playing using three key elements of drama:
- Character
- Place
- Action
Throughout the term, Preps will be engaging in a variety of fun and interactive group games designed to support their social connections, communication skills, and creativity. These activities will give students the opportunity to use their imaginations, work together, and express themselves through movement and voice.
In addition to group games, Preps will also take part in storytelling, role-play, and improvisation activities that allow them to step into different characters and settings.
It’s already been a fun start to our drama journey, and I can’t wait to see the Preps continue to grow and shine on their dramatic adventures!
Grade 1/2
Throughout the Term, Grade 1/2 students will be engaging in a variety of fun and interactive group games while focusing on three key elements of drama:
- Character
- Place
- Action
Grade 1/2 students will bring their knowledge together in small groups to plan, practise, and perform a short play based on a familiar fairy tale. This exciting project allows students to apply what they’ve learned about the elements of drama in a creative and collaborative way.
Students will take on different roles within their groups, including scriptwriters, directors, and performers. They’ll work together to adapt their chosen fairy tale, create simple props or costume pieces, and rehearse their scenes. This project encourages teamwork, imagination, and confidence as students prepare to share their performances with their classmates.
I can’t wait to see the wonderful stories they bring to life!
Grade 3/4
Throughout the term, Grade 3 and 4 students will continue developing their understanding of the key elements of drama:
- Character
- Place
Action
Along with some fun and engaging drama games, students will work in small groups to plan, practise and perform an original short play by creatively combining two different fairy tales. This project will encourage students to apply the elements of drama while developing their storytelling, collaboration and performance skills.
Students will take on a range of production roles, including scriptwriter, director and performer. They will write scripts, create simple props or costume pieces, and rehearse their scenes in preparation for performance. This process promotes leadership, teamwork and creative problem-solving.
I'm looking forward to seeing the imaginative ways our Grade 3 and 4 students bring their stories to life.
Grade 5/6
This Term, our Grade 5 and 6 students will begin preparing for this year's senior production. Throughout rehearsals, students will develop their performance skills while exploring characterisation, stage presence, voice projection and expressive movement.
Students will work collaboratively to learn and rehearse scenes and choreography, and build confidence performing as part of an ensemble. Along the way, they will strengthen their teamwork, responsibility and resilience as they prepare for performances later in the year.
It's always exciting to watch the production come together, and I look forward to seeing our senior students embrace the challenge and showcase their talents on stage!
