STEM Term 3

This term, students are learning about the ‘T’ in STEM and working on Digital Technologies topics from the Victorian Curriculum.

There are a few different blocks the students will be working on across the term. The following topics will be studied first:

Preps & Grade 1s: ‘Digital Devices’: students identify and explore common digital devices and investigate how digital systems are used to communicate, share information and solve simple everyday problems. After this unit, the students will be learning about representing data and basic coding with blocks.

Grade 2s & 3s: ‘Coding our story’: students deepen their understanding of algorithms by designing an interactive story that incorporates user choice, repetition, movement, and animations. After this unit, students will be learning about organising data.

Grade 4s & 5s: ‘Design a user interface’: Students design a simple user interface, create a prototype in Google Slides, and evaluate how their design meets user needs and requirements.

Grade 6s: ‘Making games’: students design, create and refine a 2D game in Scratch that incorporates 4-way directional movement, obstacles, rewards and broadcasts.

We also have Science Week later this Term and we will have more news to come in a few weeks regarding our whole school Science Day as well.
