Spanish Term 3

¡Bienvenidos al español - trimestre 3!
Prep
This term in Spanish, Preps will begin the unit: "¿Como Esta el Día Hoy?" (How's the Weather Today?) using song, actions and fun videos to learn new vocabulary to describe the weather.
Students will engage in craft to help consolidate the language and pronunciation, and students will practise writing in Spanish. Students will use new vocabulary to create labeled drawings and use the Spanish phonics system, learning that H is always silent and LL is a digraph.
Grades 1 and 2
This term in Spanish, students in grades 1 and 2 will begin the Term 3 unit: "Bajo el Mar" (Under the Sea).
Students will use the familiar topic and teacher-modelled dialogue to describe life under the sea, scaffolding vocabulary throughout the term to begin building sentences. Students will engage in song and videos, chants and actions, games and craft, and will decorate the Spanish Casita to consolidate the key vocabulary and dialogue.
Grades 3 and 4
This term in Spanish, grades 3 and 4 will begin our term unit: "La Hora" (The Time).
Through repetition, hands-on activities, song and videos, students will learn to tell the time in Spanish to the hour, half past and quarter past. Students will transfer this knowledge into the Spanish Casita in real-time and will create daily schedules using their new vocabulary to build sentences about different times throughout the day.
Grades 5 and 6
This term in Spanish, grades 5 and 6 will begin our term unit: "Español en Conversación" (Spanish in Conversation). Students will start studying linguistics behind Spanish and its connection to other romantic languages. Students will begin the unit by learning about Spanish-to-English cognates and will then spend the term exploring perfect cognates, near-perfect cognates and false cognates. Students will transfer the new vocabulary to begin constructing sentences that can be used in conversations and will rehearse new dialogue through different conversation topics.
