3-4 Class

Term 3 has kicked off on a wonderful note, with children returning to school full of energy and enthusiasm!

Literacy

We began the term by wrapping up some unfinished work connected to Finding Our Heart. The children then voted on our next class text, choosing Restart — the story of a boy named Chase who falls from a roof and wakes up with no memory of who he is. As Chase pieces his identity back together, he discovers he wasn't always kind to those around him. It's a powerful story that explores bullying, friendship, and the courage to do the right thing.

Mathematics

In Week 1, we explored 2D shapes, introducing new vocabulary such as vertices, angles, edges, and regular and irregular polygons, along with prefixes like quad, pent, hex, hept, oct and dec. The children loved using elastic bands and geoboards to build shapes to given criteria — for example, creating a shape with four vertices.

In Week 2, our focus shifted to measuring mass and capacity, as we investigated how much everyday objects weigh and how much liquid different containers can hold. Next week, we'll put this learning into action with a special "Metric Olympics" lesson, where students will compete in Olympic-style events using their measurement skills.

Integrated Unit & Wellbeing

This term's integrated unit is Chemical Science, where we're learning about solids, liquids and gases. In Social and Emotional Learning, students have been setting personal goals for the term and thinking about how they can work towards achieving them.
