Principal's message

Welcome back to Term 3!

As many of you already know, I have been appointed as the Principal of Alvie Primary School and I'd love to take this chance to say just how thrilled I am. It has been a privilege to lead this wonderful school, and I'm so proud to be continuing in the role. Alvie is a special place; the warmth, care and connection within our community is something I value deeply, and I look forward to working alongside our students, staff and families in the years ahead.

Now, to the term! It's been a wonderful first two weeks, and it's lovely to see students settled back into their learning despite the wintry mornings. This term our classrooms have a strong focus on building maths fluency, with students starting each session after recess with a short "Do Now" practice. You might also hear your child talk about "Turn and Talk" or "Pair and Share" — these are strategies our teachers are using to check every student's understanding during lessons, making sure no one slips through the cracks. In Integrated Studies, we're diving into Chemical Sciences, so expect some curious questions at home about mixing, melting, and materials!

We're also delighted to welcome an Inclusion Outreach Coach, who will be joining us weekly for the rest of the year to support our teachers and students.

Out in the yard, the playground has been getting a serious workout! There have been some amazing creations taking shape in the sand and water play area, and the tunnel slide has been more popular than ever. It's fantastic to see students so active and imaginative during breaks, even in the winter weather.

Speaking of the playground, the majority of our playground works have now been completed, including the new concrete path. In the coming weeks, line marking will be happening on the court, and additional gravel will be laid over the tracks. We're also getting quotes to replace the tap in the sand and water play area with a pump — watch this space!

A few important dates and reminders:

Curriculum Day — Monday 3 August: This is a student-free day, with staff working together on our Maths focus for the term.

100 Days of Prep: Our Prep students are fast approaching a very special milestone — 100 days of school! We'll be celebrating this achievement next week, and we can't wait to mark just how much our youngest learners have grown since their very first day.

Canteen Survey: A survey has been shared with families as we review our canteen process. We'd love your input, so please take a few minutes to share your thoughts if you haven't already.

Thank you, as always, for your support of our school. My door is always open if you'd like to chat.

We have a Facebook page - please be sure to follow us to see the adventures that happen at Alvie!

Bush Play Reminder 🌿

Please send a pair of named gumboots to school for your child.

These can remain at school and will allow students to participate fully in Bush Play activities throughout the year. A little mud is often part of the learning!

Warm regards
