Year 5/6 Cluster News

Year 6 Graduation:We would like to share a photo gallery of the graduating class on graduation night. We need 2 photos of your child to show how they have grown up into the students we know today. Please include a baby photo and first day of school photo.  These photos can be emailed to Jade Fielke (fielke.jade@goldengrove.sa.edu.au) by the end of Term 3. This will allow us to get them into a variety of formats to celebrate our wonderful Year 6s. Thank you to the seven families that have done this promptly.

Graduation Dinner is at Dimples, Tea Tree Gully Golf Course on Wednesday, November 25th. This is a wonderful night to honour and share with our Year 6 families! More information will be available early next term.

HOME INQUIRY:

Reading: Aim for 20 minutes minimum reading per night. We encourage students to read aloud, either to themselves or a parent.

Mathematics: Continuing to develop their recall of multiplication facts, with the goal of building automatic recall of multiplication facts up to 10 × 10.

Inquiry: Year 5 students are reflecting on their celebration of learning and Year 6 students are working on their Exhibition presentations. Please work with your child on this at home.

Reader’s Workshop:

We are coming to a close of our Hatchet novel study with only three chapters to go. Students have enjoyed this novel and it would be worth engaging with them about what they thought of the book.

Mathematics:

Mathematics has had a strong Celebration of Learning and Exhibition focus, with students exploring statistics and data connected to their chosen inquiry issue.

Students have researched relevant statistics and considered how data can help communicate the importance and impact of their issue. They have learned how to represent this information digitally through graphs and infographics, selecting appropriate ways to display their findings clearly and effectively.

Inquiry:

Our Year 5 students are reaching the end of their Celebration of Learning and will be spending time reflecting on their learning journey, the action they took and the growth they demonstrated throughout the process.

Our Year 6 students are now in the final stages of preparing for Exhibition next week. They are busy wrapping up their research, action and displays, and preparing to share their learning with our school community.

Students have taken action in a wide range of ways, including writing songs, creating games and websites, completing clean-ups, choreographing dances, creating resources and writing to organisations and members of parliament.

At this stage, Year 6 students may still need some support at home to put the finishing touches on their action or display items. This could include gathering materials, printing, creating or making final pieces.

We will continue to provide time at school for students to complete their preparations as we look forward to celebrating all of their hard work at Exhibition next week.

Please reach out to your child’s class teacher if you have any questions.

Reminders:

Hats – As the UV steadily increases it is important that students bring their hat to school to wear on days when the UV is above 4.

Please check with your child to see if they have a hat.
