I was delighted to be able to attend the Gala Day for the local primary schools, organised by Zoe Slatter and the Melbourne Victory Football club, as part of our partnership program with the club. Our students were great ambassadors on the day, using their skills to referee, manage young children, keep time, and somehow ensure that around 300 students were able to participate in so many games throughout the day. The attached photo shows the students from our local primary schools at the end of the day, and the students in the bright colours along the fence are the JFC students who managed the day. It was an amazing event - we could not have been more proud of our students!
There is a longer report on the event further into this newsletter.
Another significant initiative at JFC just recently was the SPCs - Student and Parent conferences - where students had the opportunity to speak about their learning and demonstrate to parents just what it is they do at school each day. We hope to see this become an integral part of our learning and feedback in future years.
The term has not been without its challenges, the most significant of those being the disappointing lack of progress on the new buildings. I have met with the VSBA (Victorian Schools Building Authority) and DET thorughout the term, and they will be onsite through the break and early next term to make the current area a little safer and easier to navigate, as well as doing some needed repairs to the portables. We are still not yet able to announce a start date for the new builders to finish the works, but hope for more concrete information into next term.
We will welcome a new staff member next term, Mr Samuel Ji. Samuel will replace Mr Harry Lawless who left a few weeks ago. Mr Ji is an experienced Maths teacher and he will step into the classes vacated by Mr Lawless, and looked after in the interim by Mr David Williams. Mr Williams will be leaving at the end of this term and we wish him all the best.
We also thank Ms Dara Vicary, who stepped in to take the place of Mr Alex Byers while Mr Byers took some leave. Ms Vicary will leave at the end of this term and we wish her all the best at her new school.
Enjoy the newsletter, and have a wonderful holiday break!
See you next term, on Monday 21st July.
