RMIT Future STEM leaders

A group of female Year 9 students went on an excursion to RMIT University this term to learn about females in STEM and develop their presenting and public speaking skills.

They then helped lead a STEM incursion for our Year 7 & 8 students with assistance from RMIT engineering students. The students had the opportunity to build a wind turbine that counts how many revolutions it completes via a touch sensor, to build a solar panel that turns to face sunlight and a pump that waters plants when it detects the soil is dry.

The Year 9 STEM ambassadors did a fantastic job of running ice-breaker activities for the students and assisting them with the STEM activities. The Year 7 & 8 pupils were engaged in all of the STEM activities and thoroughly enjoyed the hands-on session.
