Gardening News

Students cooked up and tasted pumpkin risotto this fortnight. Students learnt to use a knife safely to cut the pumpkin. As the summer garden finishes, there have been lots of different creatures to explore.

We’ve been discussing waste disposal and recycling, and investigating how to dispose of particular types of waste such as foil, ewaste, batteries, and containers with 10c deposit labels on them. Recycle near you is a great site to look up where particular materials can be recycled Planet Ark - Planet Ark Recycling Near You

In the coming weeks, we will be setting School Sustainability goals and one of which will be reinstating paper, cardboard, recycling, and compost bins in every classroom. Our School Sustainability Policy has been reviewed and updated too in order to commit to the Resource Smarts Schools Program. ResourceSmart Schools is a free program offered by Sustainability Victoria that supports Victorian schools to embed sustainability across the school facilities, community and curriculum, while saving resources and money for the school.

We are looking for help from parents to help input billing data to track how we are reducing costs to save on electricity, water and waste bills – and greenhouse gas emissions to minimise our impact on the environment. Please contact the office if you are able to volunteer an hour or two every term.

We need help with looking after the chickens in the holidays. They are laying an egg each every day. Please contact the office if you are able to assist.
