What's Been Happening?

Year 3 Mathematics
In Year 3 this week, we have been reviewing our subtraction skills by playing card games. One of our favourites has been ‘Nifty Fifty’, where we tried to create a subtraction question with an answer of 50, using 4 cards we drew from the deck. The person with the answer closest to 50 wins!
Year 1 News
Jed visited Grade 1’s to talk about his role as a vet.
Community Week in Year 2
As part of our Inquiry Unit this term on ‘Community and Belonging’, we have been so lucky in Yr 2 to have the opportunity to invite our parents in to talk to us. They have been sharing with us how the work they do helps serve people in our community.
Gabriel’s mum Natalie explained all about Taxes people pay and why.
Lucy Stoke’s dad Chris talked to us about the amazing work he does being an Orthopaedic Surgeon.
Ged Moore explained the work he does as a vet here in Glen Iris. We even had ‘Alma’ (Mrs. Kilduff’s Cavoodle) as a model during Ged’s talk.
Claire Clarke - Grace’s mum, shared with us the wonderful work she does over in Fiji helping the village dogs stay healthy.
Alexander’s dad Anthony is an Architect, we got to see the intricate designs and plans that he has created as well as hearing about all the rules that architects have to follow when designing a building.
Maya’s mum Jess is an Optometrist. Jess reminded us that screens are not good for our eyes and that it is important to have a break from screens. She had a model of an eye that we played with. Jess bought Yobi in to meet us. Yobi was training to be a guide dog but he wanted to be Maya’s pet more!
Jess’s mum Anna is a Nurse. She explained to us all about vaccinations, why we have them and how they keep us free from diseases.
Archie’s mum Katie is a Physiotherapist. She let us handle stethoscopes, crutches, slings, a model of a spine and more. We learnt about the work physios do to help people who have hurt muscles and tendons or who have had operations.
Willa’s mum Jess is a Psychologist. Jess talked to us about our emotions (big and small) and different ways that we can use our thoughts to help us have positive emotions.
We have learnt so much from our ‘Community Speakers’ these past two weeks. Mrs Kilduff, Miss Lloyd and all the Yr 2’s would like to say a huge thank you to them for their time and the effort they made in making their talks so interesting and so easy to listen to.
YR 2’s POSTING LETTERS HOME
Yr 2’s enjoyed writing letters home to tell their families all that they have been doing this term in Yr 2. On Wednesday the children walked down to the post box just near Ferndale Park to post their letters home. The Australia Post man arrived in his red truck to collect all the letters just as the last person posted their letter. The Yr 2’s took their novels down to the park and enjoyed sitting in the shade of the big, beautiful trees to spend quiet time reading. They were lucky enough to have a flavoured milk drink while they read their books. After reading, all the children had time to play on the equipment and on the oval.
It was certainly a busy week in the Yr 2 classrooms!
