Loving the Library @ MSC

A warm welcome to all of our new staff and students!

This year we have started with a great feel to our environment, continuing with our focus on creating a supportive and comfortable space for individual growth and learning at Melton Secondary College. 

The Library is a central location for staff and students to visit, finish off work, conduct research, grab a book or sit in a quiet space to read. This year we continue with our focus on creating a supportive and engaging space that enables academic and personal growth at Melton Secondary College. The library works to share and promote significant events within the school community. We encourage students to engage and create connections with books in our collection for these topics.

We continue to supplement our collection with new releases, curriculum-based topics and staff/student requests.  Students can approach one of our team at any time for support in the library. The library is open from 8.30am – 4.30pm. Recess and lunchtime are for schoolwork, study or independent reading.  Students may borrow 4 items on a fortnightly basis and are able to re-borrow if required. 

Student Library Assistant Program

The Student Library Assistant Program continues to thrive in 2025, with notable growth in junior student participation. The program provides students with opportunities to meet new people, develop responsibility, contribute to the selection of new resources, and support library displays and promotions.

Students may complete an application form to join the program or can be nominated by a member of staff.

Participants assist with many of the library team’s daily tasks, including borrowing and returning materials, shelving books, supporting library users, promoting library resources, and creating displays. Upon successful completion of the program, students receive a Student Library Assistant Program Certificate and are awarded a Student Library Assistant badge.
