High Ability at Melton Secondary College

At Melton Secondary College, we recognise that high ability is about potential and performance. Students who demonstrate advanced thinking, strong curiosity or exceptional skill benefit from purposeful challenge and opportunities to extend their learning in meaningful ways.

This year, students have been engaging in extension programs in Mathematics and English designed to deepen conceptual understanding, strengthen analytical thinking and encourage intellectual risk-taking. These programs provide opportunities for students to work with like-minded peers and extend beyond the standard curriculum.

As part of this work, students are also supported to approach assessments with confidence, resilience and strong preparation skills. While standardised assessments provide useful data, our broader focus remains on developing deep understanding and transferable skills.

Students are also encouraged to participate in public speaking competitions, where they develop confidence, clarity of thought and the ability to communicate ideas with impact.
