Year 12’s finish strong
As the College community gathered this week to farewell the graduating Class of 2026, we marked a significant milestone in the lives of a remarkable group of young people. The week was filled with moments of gratitude, celebration, reflection and connection, providing a fitting conclusion to their journey at St Peter’s College.
Our celebrations began with a shared morning tea, generously provided by the Year 12 students and enjoyed alongside staff in the Staffroom. It was a warm and meaningful occasion, symbolising the transition from student life to the next chapter of adulthood. Surrounded by the teachers and staff who have guided and supported them over the years, our graduates were able to reflect on how far they have come and look ahead with excitement and confidence.
On Tuesday, the student leadership team unveiled the Class of 2026 legacy project: a commemorative stone plaque and tree. Together, these symbols beautifully capture the spirit of this graduating cohort. The stone represents strength, foundation and the lasting impact they have made on our College, while the tree reflects growth, adaptability and the promise of new beginnings as they embark on the next stage of their journey.
Graduates were then celebrated within their House communities by Learning Advisors and House Leaders, the people who have worked closely with them and helped foster a sense of belonging throughout their time at the College. These gatherings provided a personal opportunity to acknowledge each student’s contribution and the unique role they have played within their House family.
Our Graduation Assembly was both a proud and joyful occasion. With almost 500 guests in attendance, family members and friends gathered to witness our graduates cross the stage, sash and mortarboard in place, as they received their Graduation Certificates. A particular highlight was the Year 12 Video, a touching tribute that captured the memories, friendships and shared experiences of the cohort. True to the spirit of St Peter’s College, it celebrated every student and reminded us that each person’s story matters and belongs within our community. This was followed by a shared BBQ at the Avenue and a chance to take a breath before the afternoon formalities.
The Graduation Mass offered a beautiful opportunity to gather in faith, giving thanks for the gifts, achievements and growth of our Year 12 students. As a College community, we entrusted them to God’s care, asking for God’s guidance and blessing as they move forward into the next chapter of their lives.
The graduation day concluded with a formal Valedictory Dinner at Cranbourne Racecourse. The presentation of Year 12 gifts and the opportunity to share precious moments with friends, family and one another made for a memorable and fitting conclusion to their school years.
We hope that the way in which we celebrated and farewelled the Class of 2026 serves as a small but meaningful reminder of how deeply they are valued. They leave St Peter’s College with our gratitude, our admiration and our blessing. While their time as students has come to an end, they remain, and always will remain, an important part of our College family. We look forward to hearing of their future successes and welcome them back through our gates at any time, knowing that St Peter’s will always be a place they can call home.
