Year 6: Tea Tasting
Year 6 students are currently learning about Souvenirs as part of our broader unit, Travel to China.
To enrich their learning, students participated in a tea-tasting experience, sampling 4–5 different teas ranging from lightly oxidised to fully oxidised varieties. They also completed a bilingual tea-tasting journal to record their observations and reflections.
The language classroom was filled with curiosity, laughter, and meaningful discussion as students explored the unique flavours, aromas, and cultural significance of tea.
This engaging hands-on activity supported learning through multiple senses and helped deepen students’ understanding of Chinese culture and traditions.
Year 4: ‘Who am I’ Game
Year 4 students enjoyed playing a “Who Am I?” guessing game as a fun way to consolidate the two units they have been learning: Body Parts and Clothing.
Working in pairs or small groups, students used Mandarin to ask and answer questions in order to identify mystery characters.
Many students confidently used sentences such as 你是男生吗? (“Are you a boy?”), 你有黄色的头发吗? (“Do you have blonde hair?”), and 你穿绿色的T恤吗? (“Are you wearing a green T-shirt?”). It was wonderful to see students applying their language skills in an interactive and enjoyable way.
Year 3: Family Tree
Year 3 students have concluded their Family unit by creating their own family trees. Beginning with a basic family tree structure, many students challenged themselves to extend their projects by including members of their extended families.
Students were proud to apply their newly acquired Mandarin vocabulary to a project that connects closely to their own lives.
The activity provided an authentic opportunity to practise family-related language while celebrating the people who are important to them.
