On Wednesday the 25th of June, our Year 7 and 8 Netball teams headed to a freezing Ballarat to take on other schools in the GWR Netball Competition. Both teams had a fantastic day, showing great teamwork and leadership. The Year 7 Team had a great day, with mixed results wining 2 from 4 of their games a brilliant effort against some other fantastic teams. The Year 8 Team had the same result , winning 2 of their 4 games and taking it right up to all teams. On what was a very cold day the girls showed great spirit from the start to end . A huge thank-you to Emma U and Chloe H for umpiring all day!
Well done girls, wesome effort 😊
On Monday the 30th of June our Senior Boys travelled to Ararat for a day of Basketball against teams from Ararat, Warracknabeal, St Bridgids and Stawell. We entered 2 teams for the day, with our Year 12’s fielding one team and our Year 11’s the other. The day got off to a great start with both teams winning their first 2 games, the likelihood of both teams winning all games became a reality as both teams finished their pool rounds on top of their respective ladders and progressing to the crossover finals.
Horsham 1 took on a strong Marion outfit in their crossover final, our boys took a great lead, however toward the end of the game a spirited comeback from Marion saw the game tied at the final buzzer. As Horsham’s percentage and ladder position was higher this progressed them into the final. The Year 11 team had a comfortable win over St Bridgids which created a Horsham College v Horsham College Final.
This final created a lot of laughs and banter between the two teams with the Year 11 team coming out on top. A fantastic day was had by all, and all boys played the games in great spirit, well done boys, Good luck at the next level!
Tuesday 22nd July Horsham College took 30 Year 9 & 10 students to Ararat to compete in the Black Range Basketball.
We had four teams compete in the competition all students had plenty of court time across the day with each team playing seven games across two pools.
After all pool games were completed, it was HC 1 and HC 2 who came out on top of their respective pools winning all their matches.
This set up a very entertaining and highly skilled game with both team’s keen for bragging rights. The game was tied up at the end of regular time thanks to Liam R who sank a 3 point bomb to even the scores 14 all. Another five minutes was added to the game; this sparked HC 1 into action who claimed the win 26 to 14.
Congratulations to all four teams on the day it was a huge day of basketball with 16 teams form across the Black Range and Little Desert area competing, your behaviour and sportsmanship was excellent and a big shout out to the boys who helped out refereeing matches when not playing, without this assistance the day would not of been able to run.
We now look forward to travelling to Ballarat on Thursday 14th of August to compete at the Greater Western Region Competition.
The Greater Western Region Senior Hockey competition was held in Hamilton on Thursday 24th July with a mix of Horsham College students ranging from Year 7 to 12 combining together to form a Senior Team to compete against Mt Clear Ballarat.
A sunny and calm day greeted both teams which made for a very entertaining and high skilled game.
Mt Clear scored midway through the 1st half and despite multiple forward attacks by HC we were not able to square the ledger leading into half time.
The 2nd half was identical to the 1st both teams evenly matched with the defence from both sides preventing scoring, with only 3 minutes to go Buzz B was finally able to get the ball across the line to tie up the match and ending the game at 1 all, sending the match to a penalty shootout.
Each team selected five players to have one shot on goal each, Matthew K put HC in front with a great shot on goal, Mt Clear had one last chance to level the scores with their last shot on goal which was successful sending the game into sudden death.
HC took home the sudden death win when Tom B put one pass the Mt Clear goalie and then HC goalie Kai D was magnificent in keep out their attempt on goal.
Well done to all players for coming together and forming this team and a big thank you to fellow student Annabelle H who was not able to play on the day but came along to umpire the match.
Good luck to you all at the next level in Melbourne on Friday August 22nd your really deserved the win and enjoy the experience at State Level.
Our Year 7 and 8 boys travelled to Ballarat to take part in the Greater Western Region AFL as part of the School Sport Victoria after winning through locally.
We trekked down to Ballarat where we were met with icey conditions and a swirly breeze.
The Year 8’s started their day off going down to Trinity losing by 5 points and the Year 7’s started their day off also with a loss to Trinity and Ballarat High. It was a long day for the Year 8’s as they were beaten rather convincingly in their second game before missed opportunities saw a chance go begging in their last game.
The Year 7’s came out firing in their third game with a strong display securing their first win for the day. The last game saw the Year 7 boys have the chance to upset the ladder positions but were outplayed in a tough game.
Well done to Mr Hose and Mr Petering for coaching the boys. Great effort to make this stage and an opportunity that will give all students more experience and a chance to develop their footy.
