Summer Jackson - Cross Country

Congratulations to Summer Jackson on her outstanding performance at the State Cross Country Championships in Toowoomba, where she proudly represented Met North.

Competing against Queensland's best cross-country runners, Summer delivered an exceptional performance, finishing in the top 30 despite challenging race conditions and strong headwinds throughout the course.

This is a fantastic achievement and a testament to Summer's determination, resilience and commitment to her training. We are incredibly proud of her efforts and congratulate her on representing both Met North and The Gap State High School with distinction.

Lauren Dwyer - Western Civilisation Winter School 

Congratulations to Lauren Dwyer (Year 12), who recently represented our school at The University of Queensland's Western Civilisation Winter School – Voyages to the Underworld.

Lauren, who studies both Ancient History and Modern History, spent three days living on campus at UQ Women's College, enjoying full-board residential accommodation and meals while immersing herself in the classical world. Throughout the program, she explored the journeys of Homer, Virgil and Dante through engaging lectures, workshops and hands-on learning with UQ academics. The experience also included unique opportunities such as a guided ghost tour of Toowong Cemetery, theatre workshops and discussions about how these ancient texts continue to shape our understanding of the world today.

We're incredibly proud of Lauren for embracing this outstanding extension opportunity and representing Humanities with such enthusiasm. Opportunities like this demonstrate how a passion for History and the Humanities can lead to enriching experiences well beyond the classroom.

A special thank you to Ms Gerrard and Ms Austin for continually encouraging and supporting our students to pursue extension opportunities such as these. Your commitment to providing authentic learning experiences beyond the classroom is greatly appreciated.
