Year 6 to 7 Transition

Welcome To Our Future Year 7 Students
Narrandera High School recently welcomed future Year 7 students for a full day of engaging transition activities designed to ease the move from primary to high school. The Transition Day offered an excellent opportunity for students to familiarise themselves with the school environment, meet key staff, and connect with their peers.
The day began with a warm welcome from the Transition Coordinator, Mrs Lucas, who introduced the school facilities and led fun icebreaker activities to help students get to know one another. Students then met their Year Adviser, Ms Rivero, providing them with valuable insights into what to expect in Year 7 and offering a chance to ask questions.
A highlight of the morning was the Student Q&A Panel, where current Year 7 students shared their own transition experiences and answered questions, giving newcomers practical advice and reassurance. A shout out must go to Evie, Jack, Aiden, Memphis, Abby, Scarlett and Lexi for their participation in this panel.
After the recess break, Yr 9 students guided the transition students in a scavenger hunt around the school’s classrooms, sports facilities, and common areas. Next, we split into two groups and changed between a writing activity and heading outside where students engaged in some outdoor activities. These outdoor activities promoted teamwork and physical fitness while helping students feel more at home.
Following lunch, participants took part in orientation activities that focused on teamwork, communication, and problem-solving, including games like Two Truths and a Lie, Scattegories, and the Playdough Challenge. The day concluded with a wrap-up session where students reflected on their experiences and received information about their next steps in the transition process.
This thoughtful and well-structured Transition Day ensured students felt supported and excited about starting high school at Narrandera High School.
We look forward to welcoming our new Year 7 cohort back for three consecutive days in Week 8, Term 4!
