Book Week Recap

We saw the Little Lunch Crew and the Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom characters (Judd, Pete, Sarah, Mackenzie, Tess, Gemma, Zanthe, Gabi) - all keeping us well fed and happy. The Mr Men and Little Miss series of books were popular with a ‘very blue’ Mr Bump (Tyler) and lots of cardboard cut-outs created and painted by talented students for all the Little Misses (Year 11 girls) and the one Mr Tickle (Anthony) Azalea needs special mention for her tireless efforts in dressing all the Little Misses. Well done, Azalea! There were several homemade, artistic creations, so thank you for all the effort everyone!

Speaking of being creative, the Percy Jackson duo had literally hand painted their tee shirts, and with such artistic flare (Adelaide and Kathryn) All the Year 12s reverted to their Year 7 days channelling every Roald Dahl book they had ever read and dressed accordingly - ie. The BFG (RG) Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Noah) James and the Giant Peach (Isabelle & Hannah) Danny the Champion of the World (Jye) Fantastic Mr Fox (Julia) Matilda (Amy ) Miss Trunchbull (Marlee) and George and her Marvellous Medicine (Alyssa). Great effort Year 12! We will miss you next year!

We saw the Wicked Witch of the West (Deeanna), a Pirate Lady (Sophie) and we had all the ‘feels’ from Inside Out (Amelia, Georgia, Isabelle and Mia). The pink Care Bear (Evie) made an appearance and The Wimpy Kids turned up, looking suitably wimpy (Sam and Alexis), Harry Potter kept us all in line, and the local Tradies looked the part and offered to do some drilling while they were at it (Jamin, Ned and Bryce) Right at the end, Clark Kent made a surprising entrance, reminding us all that superheroes do still exist!

Those who took on the musical theme were wonderful, with Saderina sounding very much like Gabriella in High School Musical and the “Frozen” crew dancing through the snow to the beat of the music (Jess , Zoe , Mia , Charlie , Sam , Ella, Bellah , Maddie) The NBL Basketballers must have forgotten their Boom Box but they still bounced their way on to the assembly, looking very ‘cool’. Alvin and his chipmunks (Wellbeing Faculty) also made an appearance, but I didn’t hear any singing from them...? I really thought PRINCE was going to belt out a rock song though, at one stage, as Mr Gawne jived around on his platform shoes with his bass guitar!

The Staff, as always, supported BOOKS and went above and beyond, dressing to the ‘nines’. We had the Wallies ‘hiding’ all over the place (SASS Office and Exec) with the Pied Piper (Mr Chappell) whistling away on his flute and his cute little “rats” all following him (TAS Faculty) - it was chaotic!! Then the SCIENCE Space Nerds from the crew of HAIL MARY flew in and the Star Wars Maths Team wheeled their lightsabres. All the Princesses from the Support Staffroom graced our presence alongside the Princess Bride characters from the English Faculty, riding on their horses. Winnie the Poo, Tigger, Piglet and Christopher Robin (HSIE Faculty) also came to the party.

Thank you, Mrs Gawne, for being our official photographer and to Miss Crompton for comparing our parade with aplomb.

I believe NHS harmonised well together, creating a rich and powerful spotlight on books and composing a wonderful Symphony of Stories.

📚✨ Our NHS Voice roving reporters were out and about for the Book Week parade, capturing the excitement! They asked judges and entrants some hard-hitting questions to get the inside scoop. Watch here for their report.
