Hello Parents/Guardians and Community Members,

Term three continues to be the busiest term in the careers office. Now students have completed their subject selections for 2027, our school have entered these selections into our system and are now looking at what best combination of subjects, we can accommodate to ensure we cater for as many of our students as possible. Last week our students had the opportunity to attend several industry tours to local businesses and this week we have both a visit from the Australian Defence Force as well as an excursion to Wagga Wagga for the Try A Trade Day. Year 12 Careers Transition Interviews

Careers Planning and Transition interviews with all our Year 12 students are continuing throughout their final term of school. The purpose of this interview is to develop a Career Plan so that students can feel confident in their post school planning and seek guidance on the various pathway options open to students as they transition through the final months of Year 12 to post-school life. If parents or carers wish to attend these interviews, please call the careers office and we can schedule a time that suits you.

Industry Tours with Grown Our Own

Last week we were fortunate to have the opportunity to attend several industry tours with local employers and explore various industries in our region. Katie Pastro from ‘Grow Our Own’ has worked in partnership with our local employers to provide industry tours for interested students from our Years 9 & Year 10 groups.

BULLAH GROUP, TAG Energy, Stromlo Energy & Hutchins Bros Engineering Tours

Tour held 18th August 2026

These fantastic tours allowed our students to explore the Metal Fabrication and Engineering industry and the amazing employment opportunities available right here in Narrandera.

Our first tour commenced with the many staff of Bhullar Group, who are in the process of continuing to set up their facilities here in Narrandera. Bhullar Group are working in partnership with both Tag Energy & Stromlo Energy to ensure the renewable industries infrastructure is built here locally for the many future projects to be built in the Western Riverina and further afield.

Representatives from both Bhullar Group, Tag Energy & Stromlo Energy provided an informative presentation on their industries and businesses and the many careers and opportunities available in our community. Bhullar Group are well placed to be the first manufacturer in Australia that will build Wind Turbine Towers here in Australia! Watch this space for the many, many jobs coming soon for these projects and industries.

Hutchins Bros Engineering – Students were able to tour and speak directly with the director of the business Bill Hutchins who gave students a complete overview of the business from the tender process, design, drawings, costings, manufacture of components, coating of products and the high standard of Quality Control at each step and finally the build on site.

Hutchins Bros Engineering is an amazing local business that started here in Narrandera and now manufactures large scale metal fabrication frameworks and buildings across NSW, Victoria, ACT and up to Brisbane. I know students were blown away with the number of major projects the Hutchins Bros Team have built and continue to build. Hutchins Bros Engineering is a major success story and one of our most supportive local employers!

Narrandera Hospital and Ambulance Station

Tour held 20th August 2026

On Thursday 20th August, our students had the amazing and unique opportunity to attend a tour and talk with the many dedicated staff on Narrandera Hospital and Narrandera Ambulance Station. Students were able to hear from various health professionals about their career journeys and the pathways into the specific medical and health careers. Students were able to tour the hospital facilities and participated in hands on activities and gained an appreciation of the dynamic nature of working in healthcare.

Students then attended a tour of the Narrandera Ambulance Station and spoke with paramedics about their roles, the complexities of emergency care of patients and the various pathways into paramedicine. Students were able to see firsthand the lifesaving equipment and hear how it works within the complex nature of providing lifesaving treatment in the back of a moving Ambulance. Staff were incredibly generous with their time and answered students’ questions about their careers and pathways.

I wish to express my sincere thanks and gratitude to all the many staff from various organisations and businesses for their time, enthusiasm and encouragement of our students exploring various career pathways.

Thank you also to Katie Pastro from ‘Grow Our Own’ for organizing these opportunities for our students and Mr Tom Dore who took our students to the Hospital and Ambulance Station tours on Thursday.

Upcoming Events

Australian Defence Force Visit

On Wednesday 26th August, we will have a visit from the ADF to discuss careers, gap years and entry pathways into the defence force, as well as students participating in the ADF Personal Training Challenge. This event will be for our Year 10 cohort of students.

Try a Trade & Wagga TAFE Excursion

27th August 2026

We also have another great excursion coming up for our Year 10 cohort to explore all the Trades based careers at the Try a Trade Day in Wagga on Thursday 27th August. At this event, many employers across the Riverina will be in attendance with hands on displays and information on all things Trades and Vocational Courses from TAFE and other RTO’s. This is a fantastic showcase of many careers, such as nursing, early childhood education, hairdressing, beauty, electrical, construction, mechanical and many other trades. Notes will come home soon with more details.

Virtual SAFEWORK White Card Course

2nd & 3rd September 2026

We have our next White Card Construction Safety course scheduled for the 2nd and 3rd of September in the school library. Students must be in the school library seated ready to commence at 8:45am as this is a requirement of SAFEWORK for the strict requirements of this course. Students will be assessed throughout the two half days and in the afternoon on the knowledge gained of workplace safety and how to respond in an emergency scenario. I will advise interested students in year 8 to put their name on the waitlist towards the end of the year.
