Mathematics Challenge for Young Australians

Mathematics Challenge for Young Australians

This competition has been designed to help motivate, stimulate, encourage and develop mathematically interested and talented students in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10. It consists of two stages, but you can complete only one stage if you wish.  Students entering this competition need to be self-motivated as it is completed outside class time.

  1. Challenge Stage

This runs for a consecutive three-to-four-week period in terms 1 or 2 (before early June).  Students solve six problems, some can be completed with limited collaboration with another student, and then submit their individual solutions.

  1. Enrichment Stage

This runs for sixteen weeks some time from April to September.  Students work through a booklet of students’ notes (this gives them some background work) and then they solve either twelve or sixteen problems (depending on year level).

Any Year 7 – 10 students who are interested in entering then they need to email me by Tuesday 12th March. Students in Year 7 LEEP and 8 LEEP are already enrolled in the Challenge Stage. If a student has any questions regarding this competition or would like to see an example of what is involved, then please see me.
