Reminder: Student Free Day
Walkathon
On Friday, 8th August, we held our annual Walkathon!
A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising the Mass and Feast Day celebrations. The day began beautifully with a prayerful Mass celebrated by Fr. Stanley Devasia – a fitting way to honour the Feast of Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop.
The Walkathon was a "colourful" success, with a new route and the exciting addition of a Colour Run.
We wrapped up the day with the always-popular Staff vs Students Netball Game – played in great spirit and enjoyed by all… even if the students claimed the victory this year!
Fundraising efforts will continue over the coming weeks, so please support the students in raising money for our very deserving 2025 charities:
- The Movember Foundation
- Refugee and Migrant Homework Club Program
- Trinity Families
- MacKillop Today
Walkathon Fundraising
As part of our Walkathon fundraising activities, Chisholm 1 are raising valuable donations through Krispy Kreme doughnut orders!
Doughnuts are available by the dozen only for $26 per box, with orders placed via CDF Pay. Orders will be delivered on Monday, 1 September.
Year 8 Students Explore Renewable Energy
On Friday the 15th of August, our Year 8 students had the chance to engage with Ian and Dan from the Gippsland Climate Change Network, who visited with their Renewable Energy Demonstration trailer. The hands-on experience allowed students to see how different energy sources can be harnessed to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels such as coal.
Students took part in a range of interactive activities, from making a human circuit, to riding a bike that transformed mechanical energy into electrical energy to power a light. They also explored a hydrogen cell model car in action and saw solar energy being converted to light.
This workshop tied in perfectly with our current unit on Energy Transfers and Transformations as well as National Science Week, giving students a practical and exciting insight into how science and innovation can shape a more sustainable future. - Cassie Raschle, Science Leader and Year 8 Science Teacher
Tournament of Minds
On Saturday, our students proudly participated in the Tournament of Minds, led by Hamish Duckmanton. One team received an Honourable Mention and placed 2nd, while our other team took 1st place – securing their spot in the State Final on 14th September.
Congratulations to all involved!

Shaun Stannard - Senior Cameron 2
Earlier this year, Shaun Stannard visited Madame Tussauds in Sydney and was delighted to discover a waxwork of Saint Mary MacKillop on display. It was a special moment to see our College’s namesake so prominently featured.
