Preparing for the Future through PISA and Subject Selections

Our students have recently been engaged in two significant activities that reflect their readiness to take on future challenges—PISA testing and the 2026 subject selection process.

On August 12th, a selected group of our Year 9 and 10 students participated in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), an international study run by the OECD. PISA assesses 15-year-olds in reading, mathematics, and science, with a focus on how well students can apply their learning to real-world situations. Conducted every three years, the data collected helps inform educational improvements globally.

Students were chosen at random from the eligible age group, and we commend those who took part for representing our school with maturity and focus. Their participation not only contributes to global education research but also highlights the importance of real-life learning skills in today’s world.

In parallel with PISA, our broader student cohort has been deeply involved in subject selections for 2026, which have now officially closed. We are incredibly proud of the responsible and thoughtful manner in which students approached this process—seeking advice, exploring career pathways, and making informed decisions about their future learning.

Both the PISA participation and subject selection process demonstrate the growing independence and ambition of our students as they shape their academic journeys. These experiences are not only about assessment or planning—they’re about preparing to thrive in a complex and ever-changing world.

Well done to all students involved for showing curiosity, commitment, and a future-focused mindset.

Looking Ahead: Preparing for Unit 3 & 4 VCE Exams

As we move toward the end of Term 3, our focus shifts to the upcoming VCE Unit 3 & 4 exams, which begin early in Term 4. This is a crucial time for students to consolidate their learning, refine exam techniques, and build the confidence needed to succeed.

Effective Study Strategies

To make the most of the remaining weeks, students are encouraged to:

  • Revise regularly, using class notes, SAC feedback, and study guides
  • Create summary notes or visual aids like mind maps to condense key ideas
  • Attempt practice questions from previous VCAA exams and course materials
  • Use active study techniques, such as teaching concepts to others
  • Schedule study sessions wisely, using tools like the Pomodoro technique
  • Seek clarification on challenging topics by asking teachers or peers

Practice Exams – Week 9 (Final Week of Term 3)

Our practice exams will be held during Week 9, the final week of Term 3. These exams replicate official VCAA conditions and serve as a vital part of preparation. They help students to:

  • Experience exam conditions in a realistic setting
  • Practise time management and exam pacing
  • Receive valuable feedback to guide final revision
  • Build confidence ahead of the official exams in Term 4

All students completing Unit 3 & 4 subjects are expected to attend. These sessions are an essential part of effective exam readiness and a key step in achieving their personal best.
