2025 Youth Lyrebird Awards

Congratulations to Hugh Fagan (Year 12) and Thomas Garrie (Year 8) on their nominations in the 2025 Youth Lyrebird Awards, which celebrate outstanding young performers across school and youth theatre productions.

Hugh received a Highly Commended Performance nomination for his work in MATCO’s High School Musical, while Thomas was recognised for his creative and comical portrayal of the Earthworm in the same production.

The awards ceremony will be held on Sunday 7 December at Bunjil Place, with tickets now available.

A wonderful achievement for both boys, and a proud moment for Mazenod’s performing arts community.

Solo Starters 

A memorable transition event was our Solo Starters yesterday, designed for the 31 students who will be the only representative from their primary school joining Mazenod. 

While this prospect can feel socially challenging, this event provided an excellent icebreaker, offering a range of activities that encouraged conversation and connection. To build on these new friendships, we aim to place students who bonded during Solo Starters in the same pastoral group next year, ensuring that every student begins Year 7 with an established connection. 

Melbourne Coffee Academy Excursion

A group of Year 9 Food and Nutrition students swapped the classroom for the café last Friday, visiting the Melbourne Coffee Academy in Scoresby to learn the art of making the perfect cup.Students gained hands-on experience using commercial coffee machines, grinding beans, extracting espresso shots, steaming milk and even trying their hand at coffee art.The session finished with a well-earned organic hot chocolate and a new appreciation for the skill and creativity behind every great coffee.
