Supporting Staff Wellbeing and Professional Growth

At Mazenod, staff wellbeing and professional development are key priorities. This year, we’ve offered a range of initiatives to support our team both personally and professionally.

As part of our wellbeing program, some staff attended “Resilient Educators” professional development sessions, which focused on strategies for maintaining emotional resilience in the workplace. We also ran three Creative Arts Therapy sessions, designed as a form of “first aid” to help prevent burnout. During the staff retreat, a mental wellbeing session centred on mindfulness and gratitude offered further tools for self-care and reflection.

On the professional learning front, we introduced a tailored program for new staff to help them navigate key aspects of the school year — from managing exams and parent-teacher interviews to effective communication with families and using MazCom. This support has helped new staff settle in more confidently and feel part of the community.

We’ve also continued our commitment to mentoring provisionally registered teachers through the VIT process, recognising this milestone as a crucial step in their professional journey.

We have also launched Instructional Coaching through Steplab, a platform designed to support high-quality, evidence-based professional development. It offers clear teaching strategies, expert examples, and practical feedback, enabling teachers to adopt research-informed practices and continuously improve their craft.

Our Staff Association has played a valuable role in fostering connection and community. This year, they ran a month-long wellbeing initiative featuring trivia, games, painting, Zumba, meditation, and even massages for staff. These events brought joy and relaxation to many, and we deeply appreciate the hard work and creativity of our Social Club members in making this happen.

We’re proud of the work being done to support our staff and look forward to building on these initiatives in the future.
