Rector's Report

Greetings to you all!

How quickly the year is disappearing. As I write to you, I am aware that this is the second last newsletter for 2025 with approximately 40 Days 13 Hours 55 Minutes, and 30 seconds of sleeps until we celebrate Christmas Day. However, before we arrive at this celebration our Year 12, 11 and 10 students are currently undertaking their end of year exams followed by our junior year levels. I ask you to keep them all in your prayers that they will be open to and use the spirit’s gifts of knowledge, patience, wisdom, and understanding.

This Sunday's Gospel

In this week’s gospel, Jesus reminds us that following him doesn’t mean an easy road – it means a meaningful one. Faith has never been about comfort. It’s about courage, trust, and holding steady when life gets messy.

Every family knows something about endurance. We live it in the ups and downs of daily life: holding our households together when work is stressful, showing love when tempers are short, keeping faith alive when the world seems to pull us in every other direction. It’s not easy. Yet Jesus’ words speak right into that space: “Stay with it to the end. You won’t be sorry; you’ll be saved.”

When Jesus says that “not a hair of your head will perish,” he is promising that no act of faith or love goes unnoticed. God is present in the small moments – in the school run, the family dinner, the late-night worry, the kind word spoken when it’s hardest to say.In staying faithful and loving through it all, we quietly proclaim the Gospel in ways words never could. So keep going. Keep believing. Keep loving each other through the chaos and joy of family life. God is at work in your endurance. And through that endurance, your family’s story becomes part of God’s story of hope.

Rosies Car Wash

During the past couple of weeks Yr 11 VM Students have volunteered to provide a car washing service to staff members to raise money and awareness of the Oblate Missions and for Rosies Oblate Street Mission. This initiative contributes to our social justice awareness, connection and support beyond the walls of Mazenod Mulgrave. Thanks to all involved.

Decease Old Boys' Memorial Mass

On Friday November 7, we witnessed a near capacity college chapel of family and friends as Fr Dominic and Fr Harry celebrated the November Mass for our deceased old boys. Following the Mass, we gathered in the staff room for a social time together. Since the beginning of the college in 1967, 183 former students have passed into eternal life. Sadly, since our last Memorial Mass in 2024, 15 former students have passed into eternal life. It is a great reassurance for the families that their son/s are remembered and prayed for in our daily Eucharist and a necrology of their names are etched in the stone wall outside the chapel as well as on the plaques within the chapel walls.

National Oblate Youth Encounter

The annual National Oblate Youth Encounter will be held from January 4-7, 2026. The gathering will take place at the new St Eugene’s Centre for Mission in Newborough, in the Latrobe Valley. This gathering brings together young people from around Australia who wish to share their Catholic faith in the spirit of the Charism of St Eugene de Mazenod. It is designed for young people (those entering Year 12 in 2026 through to age 30) to grow in and reflect on their faith, as well as to share plenty of fun and community time with one another. The theme for NOYE 2026 will be “On the Road”, inspired by St Eugene’s call to form young people into humans, Christians, and saints. I invite parents to encourage their young people to consider attending this encounter. Further information can be found at: www.oblateyouth.com.au

MAMI Christmas Cards

Once again, the Oblate Christmas Gift Cards are available for purchase. The idea behind this giving is that you purchase a card or cards from various amounts to assist the Oblate Missions. The card you purchase explains to your family or friends that you have purchased this gift card on their behalf in place of a material gift.

These cards can be purchased from the Front Office (via cash only) or on online through mami@oblates.com.au

Generous responses like yours make this world a better place for our unseen neighbour. This is a gift that keeps on giving.
