Year 9 Italian Film Festival Excursion

On Friday, 17 October the Year 9 Italian students attended the annual Italian Film Festival at Palace Cinemas, and it was an unforgettable experience! The students were excited to immerse themselves in Italian language and culture outside the classroom, and the festival did not disappoint.

The highlight of the day was a hilarious comedy film; When Mum is away…with the in-laws, that had everyone laughing from start to finish. All students followed the story easily, thanks to the expressive performances and clear subtitles. It was a fantastic way to see the language come to life on the big screen while experiencing authentic Italian humour.

Adding to the fun was the irresistible smell of freshly popped popcorn, but not just any popcorn! The cinema offered their special olio d’ oliva popcorn, made with olive oil instead of butter. Students loved the rich, delicious flavour and joked that even the snacks were authentically Italian.

After the movie, students chatted about their favourite scenes and characters. Many said they were inspired to watch more Italian films at home and couldn’t wait for next year’s festival.

The excursion was a perfect mix of learning and fun. It reminded everyone that language study isn’t just about grammar and vocabulary,  it’s also about experiencing culture, laughter, and community. Everyone left the cinema with smiles on their faces and a little more love for all things Italian
