Year 11 Excursion to the Holocaust Institute of WA

On Thursday, 16 October, Year 11 students studying Modern History and HASS in Action visited the Holocaust Institute of WA to participate in a workshop focused on the remembrance and analysis of the Holocaust. This was a deeply moving and significant opportunity to engage with history through the personal stories of volunteers who have direct connections to the events of the Holocaust.
Our students approached this experience with maturity and respect, recognising the emotional weight of the stories shared. They heard the testimony of a child of a Holocaust survivor, who recounted the tragic experiences endured by her family—trauma that continues to echo through generations.
Throughout the workshop, students were guided through a chronological account of Jewish life under Nazi rule, gaining insight into the escalating discrimination, vilification, and eventual systematic extermination of over six million people. The session was both intellectually rigorous and emotionally powerful, offering a profound understanding of the consequences of hatred and intolerance.
This experience will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on our students, shaping their perspectives not only in their studies but in their broader lives. It serves as a permanent reminder of the importance of hope and justice, and the enduring need to uphold democratic values in the face of injustice and inhumanity.
