Boarding News

Mr Jim Noble, Assistant Head of College - Boarding

It has been a great week for our boarders, with many students representing the College with pride across a range of activities.

A special congratulations to Bas Martinuzzi (Year 12), Nathan Cullen (Year 7) and Mason MacFarlane (Year 7) who represented the school at the AIC Swimming Championships. Marist finished a very close second overall in the championship and our three boys contributed strongly to the team’s excellent performance. It was a fantastic effort and a great example of the commitment and determination shown by our boarders.

Last Saturday also saw the penultimate round of cricket, volleyball and AFL fixtures, with many strong performances across the grounds and courts. It has been wonderful to see the boys competing with enthusiasm and supporting their teammates throughout the Term 1 season.

Marist Boarding was also represented at the Motherland Gala Dinner in Toowoomba last Friday night, where we hosted a table of current and future boarding parents. Motherland is a wonderful charity that supports and connects rural mothers across Australia, delivering services that help reduce isolation and improve mental health outcomes. It was a privilege to be present at an event that raises both awareness and important funding for such an important cause.

We continued our involvement on the Darling Downs over the weekend, travelling to Fairholme College with almost 70 boarders for a Hawaiian-themed social on Saturday evening. The boys thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to mix with the Fairholme boarders and the sports, BBQ and trivia format worked extremely well. We hope this will be the beginning of many more social occasions between our two schools.

Back at the boarding house, students also enjoyed some well-earned downtime over the weekend, making the most of the gym and pool facilities as well as a trip to Bounce Indoor Adventure Playground.

It has been a busy and enjoyable week for our boarding community and we look forward to the remainder of this term with plenty of academic, co-curricular and recreational pursuits for the boys to engage in.
