Year 10 Art on the Riverwalk

Year 10 Visual Art students participated in an excursion in Week 7 where they walked along the Brisbane Riverwalk stretching from New Farm to Howard Smith Wharves.  Their purpose was to capture photographic images of architecture, the city scape and the natural environment, which will inform their upcoming mixed-media practical task. Fortunately the rain stayed away for the walking part of the excursion, before students moved onto the William Robinson Gallery at QUT Gardens Point, to view the exhibition, “Reflections.” William Robinson was one of Australia’s most celebrated artists, known for his dynamic and unique approach to painting the Australian landscape.

Year 11 Art Workshop with Callum Francis

Year 11 Visual Art students were fortunate to have had guest artist Callum Francis (Old Boy 2012) present an artist talk and facilitate a workshop; students worked spontaneously (and without any pre-planning) to develop artworks depicting their local natural environment around the Arts precinct using ink and brush as the medium. Callum shared his knowledge and details of his artistic journey, which saw him study Fine Art and Literature at University on graduating from MCA. As a full-time artist, his work is inspired by aspects of his life and the places he frequents, the beach, rivers, fishing, walking, sunrises, sunsets and the array of colours that filter through these locations at various times of the day.  Callum was chosen as a finalist in the prestigious Hadley’s prize in 2025 for his oil on canvas work, “Sparkes Hill.”  We are very proud of Callum’s achievements and feel honoured that he has taken time out of his busy schedule to share his skills and experiences with our senior Visual Art students.
