Year 11 Speed Careering Event

Our Year 11 students recently took part in an engaging Speed Careering event in the Discovery Centre, where they had the opportunity to connect with alumni working across a wide range of professions and industries. We even had the privilege of welcoming a special feline guest to complement our veterinary nurse!

Throughout the event, students rotated through a series of short conversations with alumni, hearing firsthand about their career journeys, day-to-day responsibilities, qualifications and the skills required to succeed in different fields. Students were also encouraged to ask questions and explore career pathways they may not previously have considered.

We were fortunate to welcome alumni with expertise in:

  • Exercise and Sports Science
  • Retail and Small Business
  • Sports and Entertainment Industry
  • Mineral Processing in the mining industry
  • Commercial Litigation and Law
  • Midwifery
  • Veterinary nursing
  • Radio Announcing and Broadcasting
  • Government
  • Astrophysics
  • The Australian Defence Force, strength coaching, martial arts and small-business ownership
  • Statistics within the Federal Public Service

The variety of careers represented highlighted the many different pathways available after school and showed students that career journeys are not always straightforward or predictable. Alumni shared practical advice, personal experiences and valuable lessons about education, training, resilience and adapting to new opportunities.

We sincerely thank all participating alumni for generously giving their time and sharing their knowledge with our students. Their enthusiasm and willingness to support the next generation made the event informative, inspiring and memorable.

It's great to see our students in action in the community. It was a pleasure to visit Alex whilst out on her work placement at the Dome in Gosnells.
