Welcome to Term 3 in the Library! Even though it’s our busiest time of the year, it’s easily the most exciting. This term is all about celebrating books and reading great stories.
Coming Up
- HTS Book Fair (Week 2)
- CBCA Books of the Year: We’ll be reading the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) shortlisted Books of the Year during library lessons and finding out if we agree with the judges when they announce the winners in Book Week.
- Book Week (Week 6): We celebrate all things reading with games, challenges, and the much-anticipated Dress-Up Book Parade.
The HTS Book Fair Has Begun!
Our annual Book Fair kicked off yesterday and runs through to this Friday, 31st of August.
Whether you're looking for early readers, graphic novels, or exciting new series, we've got something for everyone!
Book Fair Opening Hours:
- Before school: 8:30 am – 8:50 am
- Primary Snack & Secondary Lunch breaks
- Library Lessons: Students can purchase during their class time
- Grandparents Day: Thursday until 12 pm
- After school: Until 4:00 pm
How it Works & Family Visits:
- Wish Lists: Students can complete a 'Wish List' at school that includes the shelf locations of their favourite picks.
- Browsing Options: Families are welcome to visit in person, or you can check out photos of the bookcases to see what your child would like before they buy.
- No Obligation: Please note that the Book Fair is completely voluntary—there is absolutely no pressure or obligation to buy!
EFTPOS will be available.

Books of the Year Theme - Symphony of Stories
Each year, the Children’s Book Council of Australia choose a theme for Book Week. This year’s theme is 'Symphony of Stories'. Just like different instruments in an orchestra, this theme celebrates how diverse characters, unique voices, and imaginative tales harmonise to create a rich world of reading. Over the coming weeks, our students will be exploring the CBCA Shortlisted Books of the Year to experience the very best of Australian children's literature.
Kinder to Year 2 will be reading books from the Early Childhood category, Years 3–4 will explore the Picture Book section, and Years 5–6 will be enjoying stories from across the Younger Readers, Eve Pownall, and New Illustrator categories. After reading these stories, students will share their reviews and complete some fun story-inspired activities. So far, we've enjoyed:

- My Nonno Loves by Adelle Frittitta
- The Frog's First Song by Jazz Money
- Dawn by Marc Martin
- Spirit of the Crocodile by Aaron Fa'Aoso and Michelle Scott Tucker

SORA’s eBooks of the Week
To celebrate World Friendship Day on the 30th of July, SORA (our digital library) have curated a special collection of eBooks and audiobooks about the power of friendship. Sora is completely free, accessible on almost any device, and a great option for keeping up with reading at home. Instructions on how to access SORA can be found here.
Meet the Readers
Meet Remy and Thomas, who have loved borrowing and reading the same Dog Man books together. It’s been great to talk to them about what they’ve enjoyed about Dog Man and to see their enjoyment of reading grow. Keep it up, boys!
Meet Bohan, who was the first Secondary student to buy a new book from the Book Fair yesterday.
Thank you to 5F, who helped write Kindergarten’s ‘Wish Lists’ yesterday. They finished their time in the library with a quick book read and asking when they can do it again.
