Finchiburras

We have had a fantastic few weeks of learning in the Finchiburras classroom! Students have been busy exploring new ideas, building confidence, and showing great enthusiasm across all learning areas. It has been wonderful to see their growth and excitement as they take on new challenges each day.

📚 English

In English, students have been learning to identify the difference between fiction and non-fiction texts, developing their understanding of how stories and information texts are structured. They have also been building their writing skills by using verbs to make their sentences more meaningful and engaging. Alongside this, our phonics learning has focused on the sounds e, r, u, b, j, and w, helping students strengthen their reading and spelling skills. It has been fantastic to see students applying these sounds and new vocabulary in their writing!

🔢 Maths

In Maths, students explored the concept of location and position, using words such as next to, behind, and in front to describe where objects are. They enjoyed participating in hands-on activities that helped them understand these concepts in a fun and practical way. More recently, students have been introduced to addition using concrete materials, supporting them to combine groups and begin developing early number skills with confidence.

We also enjoyed a fun and engaging World of Maths Incursion, where students participated in a range of hands-on activities designed to build their problem-solving skills. Through games and interactive challenges, students explored mathematical thinking in a playful and collaborative way, helping them develop confidence and a positive attitude towards maths.

🎨 Inquiry

Our Inquiry learning has been full of creativity! Students explored different ways stories can be shared, including drawing, acting, and speaking. They then began planning their own stories with a clear beginning, middle, and end. As part of this process, students practised using comprehension strategies such as visualising and adding describing words to make their narratives more interesting. It has been wonderful to see their imagination come to life as they practise confidently sharing their own stories with others.

🚒 Fire Truck Incursion

One of the highlights of the past few weeks was our exciting Fire Truck Incursion! A firefighter visited our Finchiburras classroom to teach students about fire safety and what to do in an emergency. Students had the chance to see the equipment up close and even experience what it might be like to be a brave firefighter. This hands-on experience was both fun and informative, leaving students inspired and more aware of how to stay safe.
