We are just over halfway through Term 2, and what a busy time it has been.
Students from Years 3 to 6 competed at District Cross Country on Monday, 11th May at Bald Hill Park, Clarinda. Our school placed 7th overall, and we have one student, Amika Rynbai from 5/6 A, who made it through to Divisional Cross Country. Amika will compete at Divisional Cross Country on Tuesday, 2nd June at Lewis Rd Reserve in Wantirna South. We wish her all the best.

All Year 5/6 students have been busy training for the Winter Gala Day, which will take place on Friday, 19th June. Students will compete in netball, soccer and volley stars.
There was an incursion for all Foundation students on Thursday, 28th May, by Kaboom Sports, and all students had a great time. A big thank you to the six Year 5/6 students who helped run this event.

Students from Year 3 to 6, who are part of the District Athletics team, have been busy training during lunch times. This event will take place in the middle of Term 3.
And finally, a big thank you to the Year 5/6 students who have been assisting me to run the Foundation PMP program, your efforts are very much appreciated.

YOUTH ART FOR RECONCILIATION
Year 3/4 students will have their artwork exhibited at the Youth Art for Reconciliation Exhibition.
During Visual Arts lessons, students learnt about the Tjanpi Desert Weavers, a group of Aboriginal women artists from remote desert communities in Australia. Inspired by their work, students designed and created their own woven animal sculptures, which will be displayed at the exhibition.
Reconciliation is about building respect, understanding and positive relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other Australians. Through this project, students explored and celebrated Aboriginal culture, creativity and storytelling through art.
The exhibition will run from Friday 29 May to Saturday 7 June at the Track Gallery in Mt Waverley. We hope families can come along to view the students’ wonderful creations.
Please see the attached flyer for details about the exhibition opening night, gallery hours and address.

WALK TO SCHOOL COLOURING COMPETITION
We were blown away by the amazing and creative entries in our recent ‘Walk to School’ Colouring Competition. A huge thank you to all the students for the effort, imagination, and care they put into their posters. Winners from each year level will be announced at our next assembly.
YEAR 1/2 WEAVING
During our Textiles unit, Year 1/2 students have been learning the skill of weaving on a loom. Students decorated their wooden looms with patterns before weaving paper strips in an over-under pattern to create a woven design. They then added embellishments such as hangers, beads, and pom poms, resulting in many colourful and creative artworks.

HOW THE BIRDS GOT THEIR COLOURS – FOUNDATION
Foundation students have been creating artworks inspired by the Aboriginal Dreamtime story How the Birds Got Their Colours. Students first practised drawing and painting birds before exploring clay modelling techniques to create their own bird sculptures. Stay tuned for our next newsletter to see their finished creations!
