On Thursday 6 November, students from Aberfoyle Park High School took part in the year 7 to 9 3v3 Basketball Carnival at Reynella East College.

Aberfoyle Park High School was well represented, with eight teams competing, seven boys’ teams and one girls’ team.

Throughout the day, all students demonstrated outstanding teamwork, determination and sportsmanship both on and off the court. Each team experienced success in their games and represented the school with pride and enthusiasm.

A special thank you to our year 10 students who volunteered as coaches and scorers.

Their support and leadership were greatly appreciated, contributing significantly to the success of the event.

Well done to all students and volunteers involved.

Year 9/10 boys' basketball team – runners up in State Finals

In term 3, our year 9/10 boys' basketball team competed in the knockout stages of the Division 3 State-wide Basketball Competition. The team displayed excellent skill and teamwork, winning all of their games to qualify for the finals held at the State Basketball Centre on Tuesday, 4 November.

The finals included three minor round games to determine standings for the finals. Our team started strong, securing a dominant win against St Francis of Assisi with well-organised defence and impressive passing. The next game was a close, physical contest against Balaklava; however, outstanding shooting in the second half by Blair A, Ricky G and Josh H secured a 12-point victory.

In the final minor round match, needing a win against Charles Campbell for us to finish first in the pool, the team delivered a fantastic, all-round performance, every player contributed to scoring, and solid defence saw them finish with a comfortable win.

In the semi-final, the team faced Adelaide Botanic in a closely matched contest. Trailing by one point at half time, Aberfoyle Park fought hard in the mid court. Key scoring from Ricky G and Josh B, combined with excellent defence and precise passing, helped secure an 8-point win and a place in the grand final.

The grand final was played against a strong Seaford Secondary College side. Despite a determined effort from our team in the second half, Seaford’s first-half performance proved too much to overcome.

Aberfoyle Park finished as state runners up, an outstanding achievement that reflects the team’s skill, resilience and sportsmanship.

Congratulations to all players for representing the school with pride and demonstrating our school values throughout the competition.

Year 10 Outdoor Education - rock climbing

Our year 10 outdoor education classes culminated their learning about ropework, knots, climbing equipment and technique on excursion at the Onkaparinga Gorge rock climbing area.

Students supported each other by belaying, encouraging and demonstrating trust in their abilities.

Rock climbing and abseiling provided the opportunity for students to overcome their own fears, accept and overcome challenges in the natural environment.

The days of the cliff were a highlight for our outdoor education classes.

Year 9 Outdoor Pursuits aquatics

Our year 9 outdoor pursuits classes participated in aquatic activities at Port Noarlunga aquatic centre on Thursday 27 November.

The winds were light, but onshore which meant the algal bloom foam was present in the ocean, so we adapted and did activities on the Onkaparinga River.

The light winds meant that the conditions were excellent for developing skills in stand up paddle boarding and kayaking.

Our students represented our school very well, enjoyed themselves and engaged actively in the activities.

Our year 10 outdoor education class experienced our aquatics camp at the Murraylands aquatic centre.

The weather was mild, so it was good to get involved in knee boarding, water-skiing, stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, sailing and wind surfing.

Students cooked their night meal on trangia and camped over-night in tents. Students collaborated well in activity groups and as whole groups, showing independence, self-reliance and helping each other out as required.

There were many smiles and laughs, friendships made, and consolidated and new skills learnt

Ambrose Golf Competition: A memorable finish to the 2025 school sport season

On Thursday, 4 December Aberfoyle Park High School celebrated its final school sport event for 2025 with the Ambrose Golf Competition, hosted on the North Course at the picturesque North Adelaide Golf Course.

Two dedicated teams of students represented our school, starting on their allocated holes and displaying impressive sportsmanship and skills. The Ambrose format encouraged teamwork, as players selected the best shot each round, working collaboratively to achieve the best possible scores.

For several participants, this event marked their first experience on a golf course, and it was wonderful to see their excitement and enthusiasm as they learned new skills and discovered a passion for the sport.

The weather provided a proper taste of summer, with clear blue skies and warming sunshine, a welcome change after the often-unpredictable Adelaide spring. However, the heat did prove a challenge, as the rising temperatures eventually encouraged teams to seek relief in the comfort of the clubrooms while awaiting the conclusion of the competition.

Despite the warm conditions, our students demonstrated perseverance, camaraderie and a willingness to support one another, hallmarks of true team spirit.

Thank you to all students who participated and to the staff who supported the event.

Congratulations on a terrific finish to our 2025 school sport calendar.
