Year 3 - Middle Unit

The Year 3s have packed an incredible amount into the past few weeks and should be very proud of all they have achieved. From poetry and division to our life cycles inquiry, students have continued to learn, challenge themselves and produce some fantastic work. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm and the effort they have put into their learning as we head towards the end of another busy term.

During English, students have continued to explore a variety of poetry styles. This week, they have looked at the structure of cinquain poems and had a go at creating their own. They have also begun to analyse and critique poems, identifying the poetic devices authors use to make their poems interesting and engaging, including alliteration, rhyme, similes and metaphors.

In Maths, students have now finished our unit on division and have begun our final Mathematics unit for the term, Mapping and Location. During this unit, students will learn how to read and interpret simple maps of familiar places, as well as locate and describe the position of landmarks and objects. The unit will culminate in students creating their own maps to represent familiar environments.

Inquiry

We are still eagerly anticipating the hatching of our butterflies and are hopeful that they make an appearance before the end of Term 3!

There has been a steady stream of projects arriving at school, and it is clear that students have made excellent use of their time to produce some tremendous pieces of work. We are looking forward to welcoming parents into the classroom to view the projects today.

Last Friday, Wild Action visited the Year 3s and allowed them to meet a variety of Australian wildlife and learn more about their fascinating life cycles. The students were able to get an up-close look at and, in some cases, hands-on experience with the animals. While there were many animals the students hadn’t seen before, they particularly enjoyed learning about the animals that can be found right here in the Macedon Ranges.
