Year 1/2 Unit
Literacy
In Literacy, our Year 1/2 students have been putting their persuasive writing skills into action! This week, students showcased everything they have learnt about persuasive letter writing by penning a special letter to their parents, family members or other special guests, inviting them to attend our ‘Making Waves’ Art Show.
Students carefully considered how they could persuade their chosen guest to attend, using techniques such as strong reasons, persuasive language and engaging word choices. They also practised the important features of letter writing, including greetings and sign-offs.
It was wonderful to see students applying their learning to a meaningful, real-life writing task, and they were very excited to deliver their invitations to their special guests!
Maths
In Maths, our Year 1/2 students are wrapping up their learning about multiplication. Over the past few weeks, students have explored a range of strategies to help them develop a strong understanding of multiplication, including making equal groups, using repeated addition and creating arrays.
As we finish our unit, students are revisiting and practising these skills through a variety of hands-on activities, games and problem-solving tasks. They are learning to choose different strategies to represent and solve multiplication problems and explain their mathematical thinking.
It has been fantastic to see students growing in confidence as they make connections between equal groups, repeated addition and arrays. We are very proud of all the progress they have made throughout our multiplication unit!
Inquiry
The Year 1/2 students were very excited to showcase their wonderful creations in our art show, ‘Making Waves’!
As part of our Inquiry learning about ocean pollution and caring for our marine environments, students have been busy designing and creating their very own sea creatures using recyclable materials. From colourful fish and turtles to other amazing ocean creatures, each artwork is unique and showcases the creativity and imagination of our young artists.
Throughout the project, students have been encouraged to think about how everyday materials can be reused and given a new purpose rather than becoming waste. It has been wonderful to see their ideas come to life as they transformed recycled materials into fantastic sea creatures!
We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, creativity and effort our Year 1/2 students have shown throughout the ‘Making Waves’ project. A big thank you also goes to our families for generously donating recyclable materials and helping make our art show possible.
We can’t wait for our school community to see our Year 1/2 students’ spectacular underwater creations!
SunSmart
A friendly reminder that students are required to wear a hat when outside at school. As the weather begins to warm up, please ensure your child brings a clearly named hat to school with them each day from now on.
Thank you for helping us keep our students sun safe while they enjoy their time outdoors!
A Special Congratulations!
A huge congratulations to Valentine and Isla, who showed incredible courage when they spoke in front of the whole school assembly about the importance of cleaning up rubbish and looking after our environment. The girls showed great initiative by picking up rubbish in the yard. Over 8 days the girls picked up and kept track of 222 pieces of rubbish!
Speaking in front of such a large audience can be a big challenge, and we are so proud of the bravery and confidence they demonstrated. Valentine and Isla did a wonderful job sharing this important message and representing our Year 1/2 students. Well done, Valentine and Isla!
