Wellbeing ABC

The D is for... Dreams!

Do you dream?

I'm not talking about the dreams you have while you are asleep, although they are certainly good for you (see https://greatergood.berkeley.edu/article/item/why_your_brain_needs_to_dream)

I'm talking about the kind of dreaming that is related to the future, to hope. Like Martin Luther King said in his famous speech: "I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight."

What is your dream? What are your child(ren)'s dreams? Have a talk about these at the dinner table!

Dreams are so important for our wellbeing. Without dreams, we have no hope and nothing to live for.  A dream for a better future helps us deal with the highs and lows of the present, it helps us find purpose.

Need inspiration? Here are some of my dreams for the school community, for people around me, and for the world. Of course, you can also come up with dreams for yourself! I just like looking beyond myself as well as this helps me find my place in the world:

-I dream that our school community may be happy and healthy

-I dream that my friend will be healed from illness

-I dream that one day my house won't be filled to the brim with unwanted kittens because people will be responsible pet owners

I want to finish with a beautiful quote I found, it's from writer Koby Yamada, but I want to say this personally to each and everyone of you:

"Believe in your dreams. Believe in today. Believe that you are loved. Believe that you make a difference. Believe we can build a better world. Believe when others might not. Believe there's a light at the end of the tunnel. Believe that you might be that light for someone else. Believe that the best is yet to be. Believe in each other. Believe in yourself. I believe in you."

P.S. Breakfast club is back! We hand out toast and often homebaked goods on Wednesday  mornings from 8:30am in the canteen. Just come to the outdoor servery. If you, as a parent, would like to contribute to breakfast club, we would gratefully receive strawberry jam and honey to spread on the toast. If you want to donate some, please hand this in at the office. Thanks!
