Girls AFL Gala Day

On Monday the 1st of May, 31 girls from Grade 5 & 6 participated in the Yarra Division Girls AFL Gala Day at Pinks Reserve. This year we had enough interest to enter two teams! One team won one game, drew one game and finished sixth in their pool. Our other team won all their pool games and finished first in their section. They narrowly lost the grand final to Birmingham. With 16 teams competing from various schools in the Yarra Division, this is a fantastic achievement!

The girls all showed true Rolling Hills spirit throughout the day, encouraging each other and modelling outstanding sportsmanship. There were some great kicks, marks and tackles on show too! Thanks to Mr Damien Smith and Mrs Joy Smith for coaching the girls, and to Melissa Eames for helping. Thanks also to the parents and families who were able to drop in and support the teams.

Cross Country

Congratulations to all students in Prep – Grade 6 (and the Kinder kids) who participated in our House Cross Country Carnival on Wednesday the 3rd of May. We had true cross country conditions this year and all runners did an amazing job! Results were as follows:

1st – Bradman 716 points

2nd – Freeman 697 points

3rd – Rafter 622 points

4th – Thorpe 560 points

Congratulations BRADMAN!!

Thank you to our parent helpers: Eliana, Kristy, Trent, Lauren, Timea, Amy, Megan and Jennine. The morning ran very smoothly with your expertise and assistance!

A special congratulations to the top 10 place getters in the 9/10, 11 and 12/13 age groups who will represent Rolling Hills at the District Cross Country. This will be held at Lillydale Lake on Friday the 19th of May.

Interschool Sport

Congratulations to our Grade 5/6 students who participated in the Summer Interschool Sport Gala Day on Friday the 31st March. All students showed exceptional sportsmanship and teamwork on the day. A special mention to our girls volleyball team who won and will now compete at the Yarra Division competition later this year.

This term, our Grade 5/6 students are very excited to begin training for the Winter Sports Gala Day. This will be held on Friday the 9th of June. We will have 9 teams participating across the four different sports: 1 x AFL team, 4 x netball teams, 2 x soccer teams and 2 x T-Ball teams. Once venues are confirmed, more information will be posted on Compass. We will require helpers on this day, to support each of our 9 teams. Please contact me via Compass or email (melanie.layton@education.vic.gov.au) if you hold a current Working with Children Check and are able to help with your child’s team.
