John XXIII College Rowing Club

Rowing Program Suspended

Considering the circumstances surrounding COVID-19 the following decisions that have been made with regards to our John XXIII Rowing Program. These decisions have not been made lightly and are motivated by our commitment to the health and safety of all John XXIII College rowers, students and the wider community.

South West Head of the River cancelled: On going discussions continue with Mitch Oliver (Bunbury Rowing Club) regarding the South West Head of the River due to be held in Bunbury on 29 March.  Mitch and I agree that given the circumstances and risk around COVID-19, this Regatta will not go ahead.  We advise all families to take the necessary steps to cancel any bookings or reservations made.

Girls Rowing Camp cancelled: In line with College cancellations of school based camps, the Girls Rowing Camp, which was due to be held from the 15-17 April will not go ahead. Contingency plans continue to be developed from the IGSSA level and Rowing WA and all information will be passed on once this comes to hand.

Rowing training suspended: In being consistent with the measures taken from the College HPE and Sport, the John XXIII Rowing program will be suspended until we return from the Term 1 holidays.

Regular updates on the status of events moving into Term 2 and beyond will be provided in due course. In the meantime, an alternative training program is being devised by Steve Saunders in collaboration with myself. This will allow rowers to continue to maintain their fitness. This will be communicated to all rowers via email. .
