A glimpse of humanity
Amongst the chaos of this week, there have been some lovely moments. Our Virtual Secondary Assembly yesterday was well received by our community. It provided a brief glimpse of normality as our students and staff creatively presented images of College life.
At lunchtime on Thursday and Friday it was wonderful to listen to music on the Chapel lawn. The soothing sounds were very welcome. Our staff has provided a sense of calm, professionalism and compassion. Similarly, our students are regularly enquiring about the welfare of our staff. Our young people have been extraordinary. Understandably, our parents have expressed concern over COVID-19 and have also contacted the College with numerous messages of support. We have great parents.
The unprecedented current situation is also providing lots of learning for me and all our community. I now appreciate that the College can forward a communication to families and have it quoted in parliament and the media within 30 minutes. It reflects the interconnectedness of our modern world.
Like all schools, our preparation for remote learning is progressing. Secondary families have been provided with preliminary information and more details will follow. We are implementing strategies that reflect the capacity of teachers and students to access and use technology and the potential for disruption to scheduled learning times. Primary planning is included in this newsletter.
Within the John XXIII College community this week, we have had a glimpse of humanity – and it is good.
