There are so many festivals and celebrations that take place in December and January. Christmas is just the tip of the iceberg.  If you would like to know how people around the world celebrate at this time of the year, here is a sample of a few celebrations and festivals.

 

Uttarayan International festival of the Kite - 14th January each year.  The festival takes place in Gujarat, India and marks the awakening of the gods from their sleep during the winter months.  You could make your own Kite these holidays to fly at the park.

 

Japan, Switzerland, Sweden, China and Canada all have their own Ice and Snow festivals.

In Japan its the Sapporo Snow Festival, Switzerland hosts the World Snow Festival, the Kiruna Snow festival is celebrated in Sweden, Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival is in China, and Canaval De Quebec happens in Canada.  You could make your own snow festival at home with this fake snow recipe

 

Bodhi Day - Every year Buddhists from around the world celebrate the day that Buddha gained enlightenment.  Bodhi day is celebrated in many ways, some people mediate, others drink tea and eat cake together and some families hang coloured lights to symbolise the many pathways to enlightenment.
