This week we celebrate Nicholas, Oliver, Janelle and Jaqueline.

Nicholas Bean

Introducing our 2021 school sports leader Nicholas Bean. Nic started his journey at Yarrabah school in 2007 in the Early Education Program. Nic is an enthusiastic student who has a contagious happy energy about him. Over the years Nic has become an upstanding member of our school community and is a natural born leader amongst his peers.

Whilst Nic is not the loudest student in the room, he still manages to bring a smile to everyone’s faces, often finding the humour in situations that aren’t always ‘supposed’ to be funny.

Nic has a keen passion for sensory science-based activities, especially when he can have a laugh at exploding potions. He excels in outdoor education, recreation activities and sport which saw him awarded the position of Sports Leader in his graduating year. Nic has a passion for long walks in the community where he insists on being the leader of the pack.

Following Yarrabah, Nic has some very exciting pathway plans. Nic plans to re-connect with some of his classmates while accessing Blairlogie Day Service. During his time at Blairlogie, Nic plans to pursue his keen interest in outdoor education and enjoy the many programs on offer such as community access/recreation, life skills, and further sporting activities.

Congratulations Nic and we wish you all the best for your future.

Oliver Kimpton

Oliver began his learning journey at Yarrabah School in 2018 at the age of 15. Over the last few years, we have all loved getting to know and experience Oliver’s kind nature. He strives for his independence and building on his communication and relationship skills with staff and students.

Oli has a love for music and thoroughly enjoys his time in music class where he can experiment with different instruments, always tapping along to the beat. We have all been amazed at the growth Oli has made in the last year with his gross motor/movement skills. He is becoming less reliant on his wheelchair and has the enthusiasm to participate in P.E. classes and other special physical activities.

Oliver was awarded Community Inclusion Leader in his graduating year due to his passion for being involved in the community. Oli loves going on long community walks and appreciating the natural wonders that surround Yarrabah School.

In 2022, Oliver will be attending Bayley House in Brighton. He will join fellow 2021 graduates, as well as many past Yarrabah students. We will all dearly miss seeing Oli’s beautiful smile and cheeky glimmer in his eye each day.

Good luck and Congratulations Oli.

Janelle Bent

Janelle, affectionately known as Nellie started her journey at Yarrabah school in 2007 in the Early Education Program. Nellies bright personality and infectious smile lights up every room she enters. We have all been so proud to watch her progress with her learning, social skills and physical mobility over the last couple of years. Nellies love and appreciation for nature saw her awarded the responsibility of Environmental Leader in her graduating year. Nellie loves going on walks within the community however they often take a lot longer than expected as she loves inspecting and appreciating every flower, leaf and tree she passes on her travels.

Following Yarrabah, Nellie has some very exciting pathway plans. Nellie plans to re-connect with some of her classmates while accessing Blairlogie Day Service. During her time at Blairlogie, Nellie plans to partake in various programs which draw on her interests and passions such as; art and craft, gardening, community access and independent living skills.

Since joining the Upper Secondary section Nellie has adapted well to the many challenges which she has faced, her resilient nature is something to be admired. She has left a lasting impression on every staff member and student she has been involved with over the years and we will all miss her dearly.

Congratulations Janelle, we wish you all the best for your future.

She is a much-loved student amongst the Yarrabah community and she will be sorely missed once she transitions into her post school journey. Over the years we have all loved watching Jaqueline express herself in various colourful costumes and progress with her formal learning while always having lots of fun and laughs along the way.

Jaqueline is a very artistic and creative student who has been a key component in bringing many beautiful handmade pieces to life for the schools pop up shop. Jaqueline was awarded the position of School Vice-Captain in her graduating year for her dedication to our school rules at Yarrabah, she displays kindness, responsibility, safety and a love of learning.
