Year 3 - Year 6 Updates

Year 3

What an exciting and busy couple of weeks it has been in Year 3. The Year 3 students enjoyed an amazing excursion to Twisted Science. The activities were hands-on, engaging and a wonderful opportunity for the students to explore their curiosity and enthusiasm for Science. On Wednesday, we celebrated our learning and discoveries with an Exhibition of Learning. The students proudly presented their Science experiments and shared their research about a scientist of their choice. It was wonderful to see their confidence and excitement as they shared their learning with others. In Maths, we have been revising addition and subtraction strategies and continuing to build our mathematical understanding. In Reading, we have finished reading Charlotte’s Web and are looking forward to watching the movie and comparing it with the book. In Religion, we explored the Hail Mary as part of our learning about Mary’s Nativity and the Feast of the Nativity of Mary, celebrated on September 8. We are very excited for Footy Colours Day and are counting down the days until the holidays.

Year 4

It has been a busy and exciting end to Term 3 in Year 4! In Literacy, students have thoroughly enjoyed developing their descriptive writing skills and experimenting with powerful vocabulary to bring their ideas to life. They have produced some fantastic pieces of writing and are already looking forward to continuing to develop these skills next term.

There has also been plenty of hands-on learning and excitement outside of the classroom. Year 4 had a wonderful time participating in District Athletics, as well as putting their scientific knowledge into action by designing, building and testing solar ovens with our own version of s’mores! We also enjoyed making slime as part of our Chemical Science learning, exploring how materials can be combined and changed. They enjoyed an excursion to Twisted Science with the Year 3s where they participated in lots of scientific activities that included building rockets and experimenting with forces.

A particularly special way to finish the term was following up on our successful Coats for a Cause initiative. Year 4 students and their families visited St Brigid’s Church after school to deliver the cans generously donated by our school community to the food pantry. We were fortunate to meet Peter and Gayle who shared their knowledge of the important work they do alongside St Vincent de Paul to support people within our local community. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students and families to see firsthand how even small acts of kindness and generosity can make a positive difference to an entire community, and how we can continue to follow in Jesus’ footsteps through compassion, service and care for others. Thank you to all families in Year 4 for making everything we have done possible, I hope you all have a fantastic and restful break. What a wonderful way to finish a fantastic Term 3!

Year 5

Over the past two weeks, Year 5 have been busy finishing off a great term of learning. In Mathematics, we have focused on Measurement, accurately measuring and comparing length, mass and capacity.

In English, students have been finishing writing and finalising our information reports about convict settlement in Australia. We researched life in 18th-century England, why convicts were transported, the First Fleet and life for early settlers. Students also used what they have learned from our novel, Tom Appleby, Convict Boy, to support their writing.

In Religious Education, we learned about the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, while our PBL focus has been resilience.

Last Friday, Year 5 joined Year 6 for our assembly, where students shared some of their learning from the term. We also had students represent our school at the Cheltenham District Athletics on Monday 14th September.

It has been a busy end to the term. I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable break!

Year 6

Year 6 students have had a busy and engaging few weeks! In Reading, we have been learning about World War I and exploring a range of poems related to war. We have also begun an AIS project with the Year 5 students, working in groups to design inclusive sports that are accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Our Year 6 students have also been developing their leadership skills by planning and organising Footy Day activities for the whole school. It has been wonderful to see them working collaboratively, taking responsibility and putting their leadership skills into action.
