Prep - Year 2 Updates
Prep
The last two weeks in Prep have been very busy! The students have been working hard to put the final pieces of their ‘Save the Billy Goat’ project together in preparation for our Prep Exhibition of Learning. There was much excitement on Tuesday morning as they shared their projects and all of their learning with their families. They explained how they designed and made each part of their project and discussed what materials they used and why. The students looked at the changes they needed to make to their boats and bridges and explained why they needed to make them. They also shared what they enjoyed the most about the project.
On Monday, we welcomed the K2 Room students from GoodStart Beaumaris into our classroom. The children spent time playing together and had lots of fun! It was fantastic to watch the gentleness and calm leadership that our Prep students showed the younger children during their activities. We look forward to seeing them again in Term 4.

Year 1
Over the past fortnight, the Year 1 students have been working hard to complete their narrative writing project. In groups of two or three, they created their own narrative story based on The Three Billy Goats Gruff. They then drew illustrations for each scene and took photos of it to add onto slides on Seesaw. Next, each student recorded their own narration of the scenes in their story, including sound effects of the characters crossing the bridge. All the students thoroughly enjoyed showcasing their completed project at our Exhibition Of Learning yesterday.
In Mathematics, the students have been learning about sharing collections into equal groups. They then explored the features of arrays, identifying the rows and columns of various different arrays. They then created their own arrays for our Classroom Array City.
Lastly, in Religion, the students have been exploring the Holy Family and the nativity story. They explored the differences between the stories of Jesus’ birth found in Matthew’s and Luke’s gospels. Matthew’s gospel includes the three wise men who came to visit Jesus, whereas Luke’s gospel mentions the shepherds instead.
As we come to the end of a busy Term 3 and reflect on all the wonderful learning that has taken place, we would like to wish all the students and their families a safe, relaxing and fun holiday break.
Year 2
Over the past two weeks, we have been consolidating and revising our learning we have explored throughout the term. This term, we have been learning about the four operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Over the past two weeks, we have been focusing on solving worded problems. Students have been developing their ability to identify the operation needed and use an appropriate strategy to solve each problem. We have been revising the sounds and morphemes we have learned this term, including silent graphemes and graphemes for /j/, /u/, /ear/, /air/, /i/ and /o/, as well as the suffixes -er, -est, -y and -ly. Students have also been developing their narrative writing by exploring structure and the organisation of ideas. We have particularly focused on describing characters’ feelings and responses to events throughout a story. We have continued learning about the beginnings of the Church and exploring the lives and contributions of key people in the Church.
