Governance Matters

We invite you to get to know the final three members of the College Board. In this edition, are the bios of Karen Geappen, Mark Laybourn and Andrew Yeates. You can find the bios of the six other Board Members in Courier Editions 11 and 13. 


Mrs Karen Geappen 

MCSSD, GradDip(Strat&Mgmt), BSc(Comp Sci)(Hons), FGIA Chair of the Risk Committee 

 

Karen is the Old Saint member of the Board (Class of 2000) and is a Director at Anchoram Consulting, providing governance, risk, compliance and strategic consulting services across cyber, AI and enterprise technology. She holds management, strategy and technical qualifications, along with industry certifications in cyber, information risk, AI risk and risk management. Karen is a Fellow of the Governance Institute of Australia, recognising her almost two decades of governance and risk management experience. 

 

She brings a range of expertise across multiple industries in public and private sectors, and has held leadership and strategic roles in organisations of all sizes. 

 

Karen is passionate about protecting the next generation and supporting building their skills and resilience to face the future ethically and with integrity, regardless of the next technology breakthrough. She is mother to two young boys in the Junior School and imagines a time in the future where she might again have the bandwidth to be an amateur equestrian. 


Mr Mark Laybourn 

FCA, MBA, GradAppFin, BCom Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee Vice Chair of the Foundation Board 

 

With over 20 years of experience in accounting, finance and consulting, Mark is a General Manager in the Finance team at HBF Health Limited, a role he has held since 2020. Prior to this, he was a Director in the CFO Advisory practice at Deloitte. 

 

Mark is a strong believer in the value of education and holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Information Systems), Graduate Diplomas of Chartered Accounting and Applied Finance and Investment, and an MBA (Leadership) from UWA, graduating with Distinction (course average of high distinctions). He was also awarded the designation of Tracey Horton Scholar from UWA. 

 

Mark is the Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee and Vice Chair of the Foundation Board. 


Dr Andrew Yeates 

MBBS, FCHSM, AFRACMA, FFPM(UK), DPM(UK), MRCGP(UK) Board Member 

 

Andrew is an experienced medical executive and strategic leader with over 25 years in medical administration, pharmaceutical medicine and general practice. He currently serves as the Director of Medical Services for the Royal Perth Bentley Group, overseeing clinical governance, patient safety and medical workforce across one of the major tertiary public health service providers in WA. 

 

Prior to joining WA Health, Andrew spent nine years with St John of God Healthcare, following his role as Country Medical Director at GlaxoSmithKline Australia. He has deep expertise in patient safety, risk mitigation, medical credentialing and clinical performance oversight. Andrew has also contributed to healthcare innovation through strategic development, clinical service planning and medical governance roles. 

 

With a background spanning Australia, the UK and the US, Andrew’s career includes leadership roles in general practice, pharmaceutical medicine, clinical research and medical strategy. His work is supported by Fellowships in Health Services Management, Pharmaceutical Medicine and Medical Administration.
