Literacy

We continue to enjoy reading Waves and have been engaging in some incredible discussions about the many different ways people have migrated to Australia throughout history. These conversations have provided a rich platform for our writing. Students have chosen a group of migrants (such as the Irish, Vietnamese, Chinese or English) and are now crafting their own historical fiction narratives, combining historical facts with imaginative storytelling.

Mathematics

This week we have begun our decimals unit, building on students' prior understanding of fractions. It has been wonderful to see them making connections between fractions and decimals and recognising how often we use decimals in everyday life. This is a fantastic concept to explore at home through money, measurements, cooking, sport and shopping.

Bush Play

Bush Play looked a little different this week, with students becoming television journalists for Bush News Live! Using our beloved wetlands as their backdrop, each group are creating and getting ready to perform a live news report based on a bush event, such as a lost bushwalker, a bushfire or a remarkable wildlife discovery.

While the creative storytelling was wonderful, the real learning came through the collaboration. Students quickly discovered that working as a team, listening to one another and making shared decisions can sometimes be challenging. Together, we reflected on these moments and discussed practical strategies for navigating disagreements respectfully. Experiences like these provide authentic opportunities for children to develop the communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills that will support them well beyond the classroom.
